Best digital scrapbooking software? And...

Recommended Posts

i LOVE digital scrapping!!! I could probably write an entire book here though to answer your question. There is a definite learning curve, but once you start hanging out some scrapping boards you pick it up pretty easily I think.

Have you been to any digi scrap sites? I think scraporchard.com is helpful and I also like digishoptalk.com.

BTW-I use Photoshop. I got my mom started with ScrapMax and then she graduated to Photoshop Elements. If she can do it, you can also!

I love digiscrapping! The best software also has the biggest learning curve. I use Photoshop and I know a lot of people use Photoshop Elements. There is a lot of learning to use the software, but then you can really do anything you want. If you start with some of the software that is made for digiscrapping, it might be easier to use, but you are much more limited in what you can do. Following online tutorials is probably the easiest way to learn. Most digital scrapbook sites will have some free tutorials to get you started.

Is it actually FOR scrapbooking? I know it's for photo enhancing so I guess I'm not visualizing it. I mean can you get the pretty paper backgrounds and all that stuff?

What about something like Stampin' Up's digital software?

I'm new to this game. It's been a while since I worked on my paper books, but I think I'd really like to go this route, especially after doing some photo books for people.

You will find that most people in the digi-scrapping world use either Photoshop or Photoshop Elements (PSE). I use PSE and I can do everything I want. In the last several versions, Adobe has added a lot of helpful features just for digital scrapbooking.

There is a learning curve, but once you've made a few pages, you'll get the hang of it. There are many tutorials on-line to walk you through it. The beauty of digital, is that I can go back and make changes to my earliest pages effortlessly.

For materials--there is more than you could ever use. PSE can open any JPEG, PNG or tiff file which are how most of the digital papers and elements are saved. You open a digital paper (most of them come in 300dpi, 12"x12"). Then you open and drag the elements of your choice (frames, flowers, ribbons, stickers, and much more) on top of the paper. Each element is a separate layer on the paper. You can open and drag your photos onto the page and make them into any size you wish. You can add text and a title and, voila, you are done! Then you change your beautiful layout into a JPEG file to be printed which you can do at home or upload to a printing shop or wait until you have enough pages to make a bound book.

I just got a great sale on PSE at Amazon. It is still on sale, but it isn't as good as it was. You can get either the download version or the CD version--just make sure you know what you are getting. You can get demo versions of both PSE and PSP. I used a demo of PSP to start, but switched over to PSE. The programs have different strengths.

Photoshop Elements and Photoshop are the most versatile software packages for digital scrapbooking.

Here are a couple sites where you can view examples of digital scrapbooking, mostly by people using PSE or PS. As you can see, PSE and PS are perfect for digital scrapbooking. They provide complete versatility that is limited only by your imagination. There are many online tutorials that teach you how to use PSE and PS for digital scrapbooking. Designer Digitals sells some excellent, step by step tutorials, and Creative Passion has great classes.
