My dh is the Director of a Non profit sheltered workshop.

He has a High School education, and went to school to learn ASL.

He works with mentally and physically challenged adults.

He has been taking calls alot on the weekend and has to act like the owner of a business, and do things that need to be done if no one else is willing or available.

He is also in a self-owned business and trying to get it going. He could have made alot more money owning his own business, but I think God has blessed us for him staying at his job.

He has a work truck: Dodge Ram extended cab, and before that they got him a Ford F150. He passed that on to another guy there! Major benefit! Work pays for gas for work.

We have been blessed to live on his income and I have had a few jobs, and home based businesses. I want to get my degree but just don't have time. And online is not available because of our internet being so slow.

We do have to live frugally.

God has provided and we thank Him!

My dh is Homer Simpson:tongue_smilie:. He is a senior reactor operator at a nuclear power plant. 10 years experience prior to getting the job. B.S. in Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics. Like Homer, we have 2 girls and 1 boy. I've considered dyeing my hair blue just for effect.

DH started up a consulting business and is on a government contract (providing expertise to the military on satellite and space communications technology). His background is in engineering (B.S. in Electrical Engineering and an M.B.A.). We could easily live on the income from that contract, but he is also an LTC in the Army Reserves (which provides extra income) and I have a part-time business as well.

He's a special education administrator (yes, one of those despised public school administrators! :glare:) He works wtih several school districts to make sure that they follow the special education law; supervises special education teachers, school psychologists, physical therapists, aides, social workers, etc.; helps parents and schools communicate and resolve differences; and a bunch of other things I don't even know. :001_smile: He used to teach special ed, then he was a principal, and now he does this. It's long hours and super high stress for lower pay each year, but he loves helping kids and families.

He has a Bachelor's in special education teaching, a Master's in special education administration, and will graduate with his Specialist's in a few months.

Mechanical Design Engineer

B.S. Mechanical Engineering

15 patents awarded, several more filed.

A biotech machine he designed for a major pharmaceutical company was just featured on NOVA.

He would make more $$ if he would be an independent contractor & work for himself, but as the sole breadwinner in the house pesky little things like health insurance & a steady income stream are a consideration.

He would also make more $$ if he would move into management, but he likes to design not supervise others' designs.

His type of job experience keeps us tied to this part of the country, which is one of the more expensive places to live.

President and co-owner of a business his father started in 1980. It started out as a residential electrical business, and has since evolved into commercial electrical, and now computerized control systems.

Dh has a hs education, did the electrical training class through the union, and has trained to do the computer programs and design for the engineering part of the jobs. He bids the jobs, does all the drawings and schematics, and oversees jobs.

He has worked with the company for 26 years. His dad has retired though, and passed it on to him and his brother.

He's a tattoo artist and body piercer who owns his own shop. He never even finished high school. He hated school so much, he dropped out!

He did some odd jobs for a while, ended up with a tattoo apprenticeship and eventually opened his own shop.

Sometimes I shake my head in amazement that somebody like my cousin who has a master's degree can't even find a job in today's economy (the best she managed was a temporary position) and somebody like my husband who dropped out of high school can support his family by owning a tattoo shop. We're very lucky. And in an odd way it makes me feel even more reassured about our choice to homeschool (because I feel like even if said choice DID affect potential college options down the road, that isn't necessarily a bad thing these days anyway...it seems like college gets you a lot of debt and very little by way of job options, and I've seen firsthand how someone with no college education can still earn enough to support a family all while doing something they love to do).

he's a Rocket Scientist!

here at this joint: http://www.spacex.com/

Yes, we have alot of "it's not rocket science" jokes at our house.

He was an adjunct prof, a scuba instructor, owned a scuba shop, owned his own multi media biz,and was a DJ a long time ago...a wide assortment of jobs. He likes to try stuff!

So far no official college degree, lots of courses taken though.

He pinches himself every day at how blessed he is. I do too! Our homeschool field trips are pretty amazing - we touched the Dragon that flew in orbit. Then we had frozen yogurt at the employee cafe.

Guess which one the kids liked best? :tongue_smilie:

Mine is a parts manager for a company that repairs restaurant equipment.

Almost finished his degree but it was for Park Ranger and he never went into that line of work. I have no idea why?? But only a few math credits away but I don't think he cares to finish now.

Been at the same company for over 20 years and we have made enough to live on one income, but just barely. I have worked a few part time jobs and he has as well.

Unfortunately lately it's gotten much harder and so he delivers pizza most nights as well.

He's a full time pulpit minister. He has a BS in forestry. This was his pre-ministry degree. Now he has a bachelor's degree in theology and is 6 hours from having his master's degree in theology.

Yes, money is tight, but we make it on a preacher's salary. It was important to us for me to stay home and homeschool (not for religious reasons either :)).

Dh is a Registered Dental Assistant in CA (certifications differ from state to state.) His highest degree is High School, but he has 3 (?) computer networking/fixing certifications that he studied for at home and passed the exams. He also has several dental assisting related certifications (he studied at home to pass the RDA exam, too.) Part of re-registering for the RDA requires a certain amount of continuing education credits every two years. He is also CPR certified. So while he's never had any formal collage classes, he's done more studding than just a hs grad.

I'm not really sure what my husband does anymore, but it has something to do with computers and heating/AC controls in large buildings. :) That is his day job. He also does animated graphics for other HVAC installers around the world in the evenings at home. He's good at what he does and has moved up in his field and makes a very generous salary, although that was not always the case when we were young and he was just starting out. I have worked on and off through the years. I did in-home daycare for 10 years and I currently work part time about 1 evening a week. He has an associates degree.

My husband is a nursing supervisor over a big ER, and will finish the Nurse Practitioner program in December. He works a LOT of hours between his job and his clinical rotations (like 75/week)! We are soooo blessed he's willing to work this hard for me to be home with our kids!

Dh and I take turns supporting our family.

He's a computer game programmer and supported us at first.

Then I supported us by running a large home daycare.

Then he supported us programming and running rentals.

Now I could support us with my audio book publishing company, but we're both working at the moment.....

Dh has no degree - after a couple of computer courses he taught himself the rest. He used to work for Atari.

I have a BA in English.

DH was an auto-mechanic with a certificate, however due to a significant spinal cord injury, he can no longer work in that capacity. He is now a dispatcher for a trucking company and has worked in various positions in the transportation industry. He is also a part-time student.

DH is a field examiner (auditor) for the state. He has a BS in accounting and his CPA. We could not live on his income in most areas of the country I don't think. But he's making far less than he would in accounting fields outside of government accounting.

My husband is a lieutenant with the Sheriff's Office. He has a Masters in Political Science and is working on his 2nd Master's in Theology.

I work from home part-time, but we basically live on the one income.

I guess he would be considered tech support. But really he is a living encyclopedia for a major power generation company, and one of two people who have been there long enough to know how to trouble shoot the majority of equipment out there. He's the guy they call when the poop hits the fan... We've been very lucky that he can work from home :) He used to travel all over actually working on site doing the same thing.

ETA: He graduated from a diesel vocational school. He also has 2 years of seminary under his belt. Most of his education came hands on...he's been with the same company for 20 years and worked his way up from the bottom.
