Clpretzel
We're heading to Clearwater, Florida for vacation with our 4 kids 3-9 ages. Does anyone have recommendations for activities? I would love to get a couple school field trips in.
Starr
I saw a Pirate Boat Cruise in the Bay and there is an aquarium. And lots of PE. :D
Trish
The aquarium is the same one featured in that recent movie --Dolphin Tale? Also there is a mini town called Kid City. Another is a kids' art museum in Dunedin. There's a pioneer village in Largo.
hillfarm
Clearwater Marine Science Center Florida Aquarium (in Tampa) Lowry Park Zoo (in Tampa) if you have any budding marine scientists, call the DEP Marine Science lab in St. Petersburg and ask if they are still doing tours
Sharon37127
We got Busch Gardens passes this year and I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of animals (like a zoo) they had. Of course, we were going to use it as an amusement park, but my school plans will now include lots of animal/ life science! I've heard (although I've never been to it) that Busch Gardens is better for animals as opposed to Lowry zoo. Also, there is a Sesame Street area with water play areas that are awesome. Jane in NC
The aquarium is the same one featured in that recent movie --Dolphin Tale? The Clearwater Aquarium is more of a marine animal rehab center than an aquarium for entertainment purposes. I took the behind the scenes tour there in January and found it to be highly worthwhile. historically accurate
There's also Mote Aquarium a little south of there. We did Morning rounds (for ages 10 & up); awesome experience for both my dd and me! There's a bird sanctuary on the aquarium grounds; we didn't visit but it looked cool. There's a big cat rescue in Tampa as well.
antsam
The Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary on Indian Rocks Beach is awesome. It is free (donations if possible) and it doesn't take a lot of time (less than an hour). It is small and is located right on the beach. We love it- a lot of rehabbing Florida birds. You can see them all up pretty close, too. Have fun! Jodie
