momto2Cs
If you know this program, have used it, plan to use it, etc. tell me about it. The good, the bad, and the ugly. I am very intrigued as my kids loved this book series a few years back. I love the idea of a literary-based unit study program that claims to cover so many subjects. TIA! Rebecca in Virginia
:bigear: We are planning on reading through the series for next year, so I am very curious about the responses you get here. :)
Aurelia
I'd like to know, too. I'm in the process of questioning/completely revamping my plan for next year.
momto2Cs
After looking through the samples, activity lists, and huge lists of topics covered, I think I'm sold on it! We may leave out some of the Biblical work - looks like a lot, but overall the whole guide looks really good.
nansk
Please post back on how much you had to tweak/secularize this. This looks interesting, but I don't want put in too work to edit/modify it. Thanks!

8filltheheart
Here is my brief review. I have spent way too much time on the forum the last few days, so I don't have time to go pull my book off the shelf and give a more thorough one. The book is ok. I found it lacking mainly b/c it is limited by the knowledge of the author. It is missing major allusions (like Peter being the High King and the constant references to the throne of the High King and its allusion to the chair of St. Peter.......and that one is pretty obvious, so imagine the finer details missed. ;) ) I ended up re-vamping it a lot. My recommendations would be to pre-read Surprised by Joy, Lewis on fairy tales http://wedgwoodcircle.com/news/articles/sometimes-fairy-stories-may-say-best-whats-to-be-said/ , (I would also read Tolkein's as well https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:fbykNd-VbtsJ:brainstorm-services.com/wcu-2004/fairystories-tolkien.pdf+&hl=en&gl=us&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEESgOmtOPK-Mk0I-AGQUnuvB054cMCQGFaD1Aiv5SjLw-u9q2y2EvvwhYnPm-ctFMgmP28_fy-A3WlnRoZd-IgOOy-ChjhGhZbyRq2lloDCyWM_LPKpmxeD0_KvWemdTd5bam_NU8&sig=AHIEtbThmIO4NHl0_XvQk6HlWYSSX_7smg&pli=1 I would also at minimum get another guide. ( I have never seen this one, it simply came up as an example: http://www.amazon.com/Way-Into-Narnia-Readers-Guide/dp/0802829848/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top ) I would incorporate lots of fairy tales, research/understand the Inklings, and be prepared to follow you instincts. HTH Thank you 8FillTheHeart! IF you get time later, I'd love more recommendations on guides. I really appreciate this! I'm sure my daughter would love having MORE fairy tales incorporated too. I was also thinking about adding in lapbooks, perhaps these from Hands of a Child, or something similar. To other posters above, I am not sure yet, since I don't have it yet, how to secularize it. I have heard from a few people that they simply left off the Bible work itself and explained the allegorical references as referring to Biblical mythology. Not sure how well that would work, but once I get my hands on the guide, I'll know more. The samples I looked at, and loved, were here.
