provenance61
Hi, Loved seeing other garden threads. I was wondering if anyone could suggest early spring crops that would be okay to plant now. We're in southern New Jersey, have a large garden with lots of sun. It is actually a community garden plot. I know some greens maybe, radishes...anything else? Would love any suggestions. Paintedlady
Not in the east myself, but generally cool weather crops would be plants with edible leaves and/or roots. Any sort of lettuce, peas, broccoli, spinach, radish, carrot, etc... hth!

Trilliums
Here's a quick list based on soil temperature: 40° F or warmer: Lettuce, kale, peas, spinach. 50° F or warmer: Onions, leeks, turnips, Swiss chard. 60° F or warmer: Broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, beans, beets. 70° F or warmer: Tomatoes, squash, corn, cucumbers, melons, peppers. Happy gardening! Don't forget some flowers. Bachelor buttons, nasturtiums, pansy (viola) & calendula would be good for interspersing in a veggie garden since they are edible. They all should be ok now.
