silliness7
My ds is cooking 250 hotdogs for an event this evening. 200 are frozen, 50 are not. We borrowed an 18qt. roaster for the occasion. I'm confident all 250 hotdogs will fit. We can boil them in there or heat slowly. It looks like we could steam them as well. But I've never done that before. I could cook them on the stove and then keep them warm in the roaster, but that sounds like a pain. I'm worried about them splitting, so this is why I ask. Hotdogs should not be this complicated. :001_smile: Anyone have experience with this and can advise? Thanks. :001_smile:
DarlaS
Can you get the roaster to a low enough temp? If not, can you borrow a few crockpots? That's a lot of hot dogs!

Annie G
When we've done it, we put some water in the roaster (like 4-6 cups) and get it hot- boiling is ok. Turn it to the lowest setting and plop the dogs in. I'd probably thaw the frozen ones so they cook faster. They're ready in under half an hour. We've held them for two hours on low. Once the dogs get thrown in, the water cools down quickly so it's not like they're boiling, just simmering.
DarlaS
It goes down to 200. Is that low? I don't even know. It's just below boiling, so that should be fine. You could always intermittently turn it off and let it cool a bit.
ktgrok
boil/simmer them. That is what hot dog vendors do.
