fluffybunny
I am looking for a Christian resource that will help me guide my son with books that are read, where I can coach him to evaluate characters and ideas, to determine whether they are in line with basic biblical values and principles. Does such a resource exist? Or would I only need to make a list of headings under the Fruit of the Spirit, and the Sermon on the Mount, and have my ds write about a particular character using those as a guide? thanks :001_smile:
Testimony
Have you heard of Kronos? or Biblioplan? I'm not 100% certain of what you are looking for, but I thought of those two programs when you ask. Colleen in NS
I am looking for a Christian resource that will help me guide my son with books that are read, where I can coach him to evaluate characters and ideas, to determine whether they are in line with basic biblical values and principles. Does such a resource exist? I think such a resource exists. In TWTM book, logic stage literature section, there are sets of questions to ask of a literature book (biography, too). These questions help you analyze the characters and ideas, and help you to evaluate them. You could easily use these sets of questions on most literature and biographies your son will read, to talk with him about the books. As you discuss, you can determine together whether or not you think the characters and ideas are in line with biblical values and principles. 1Togo
Take a look at Drawn into the Heart of Reading. It can be used with any book of any genre; i.e. fiction and non-fiction. DIHR does a wonderful job of analyzing characters, events, etc. from a Biblical perspective.
fluffybunny
Thanks everyone. Take a look at Drawn into the Heart of Reading. I found this resource here, with lots of sample pages that I have printed out. http://www.heartofdakota.com/index.php
Lori D.
Progeny Press literature guides do this. Especially the high school guides have the student compare themes, character choices, worldviews, etc. with Scripture. The company publishes guides for grades 1-12, with each guide for an individual book.

fluffybunny
Thanks; it looks great! I ordered the guide to The Giver; one of my favourite novels ever, which I am planning to read with DS towards the end of the year.
