RainbowSprinkles
Which one do you have and do you recommend it? I know Math U See has the set with the different colors. Would you say that there is an advantage over different colors to just one color?
Rosie
We really love having a small group set of Cuisenaire rods plus a bunch of Hundred Flats and a Thousand Cube (from Base 10 set). C Rods help promote the understanding of number bonds, and they're easier to work with than the little tiny Base Ten units. I use them to illustrate concepts all the time! BatmansWife
Which one do you have and do you recommend it? I know Math U See has the set with the different colors. Would you say that there is an advantage over different colors to just one color? The MUS blocks are nice. But....I don't think they are necessary if you just want a Base 10 block set. I have MUS blocks and base 10. With the MUS blocks I generally would use the 1's, 10's and 100's anyway...which is in any old base 10 set. I don't know that the extra cost is worth it. There are interlocking base 10 sets, but I don't know that those are necessary either. We have those too, and then they 1's have that little interlocking "nub" or whatever on one end, which kind of annoys me. Here's a nice set. But, I like this set better....because it's more colorful. :001_smile: But, because the colorful set has 10 less rods then the yellow set, I'd also throw in these. This way, it's only $1.40 more then the plain yellow set....but, you'll get an extra 10 more rods....and you'll have the different purdy colors. :D

I bought a bunch of extra thousand cubes too. It's a pain to store them but I didn't like the cardboard ones and my youngest really needs the visual. I'd also recommend something like this to go with them.... http://rainbowresource.com/pictures/045746/5294030c6306ad8e9f5b1129 Of all of the math manipulatives I have (and I'm embarrassed to say how much that is) these are the things I use the most.
