Hoggirl
the smoke detector battery always has to start dying and beeping in the middle of the night.:glare: At 3:41 a.m.? When dh is out of town? In a spot where the ceiling is ten feet high? That I cannot reach at all? Which causes the dogs to try to get on top of my head in the bed???? When I am having a dinner party this evening? Just wonderin'
Cassy
I always assumed that they died in the middle of the night because it's colder then, and temperature does affect batteries. As for the rest of your catalogue of misfortune, I think that can only be adequately explained by what I've come to know as "Sod's Law". Hope your day gets better. amo_mea_filiis.
Years ago (more than 11) we had a middle of the night beeping. A few minutes after it started going off, I heard a loud crash so I jumped up to find out that my father had flung his beeper across the room and knocked over a picture. 10 minutes after it started, we figured out it was the smoke alarm! melissad2
I have no idea but it happens here too. I have a secret stash of 9 volts just for that reason. Nothing like sending dh to store in the middle of the night to get batteries!

I hope it gets better, too! What is "Sod's Law?"
gardenmom5
so that the house is nice and quite and you will be sure to hear it. ;) What is "Sod's Law?" is that the same as Mrs. Murphy's addendum? "anything that can go wrong will - when he's out of town".
Cassy
Okay, maybe peculiar to us Brits. Murphy's Law? From Wiki: Noun Sod's law (uncountable) (slang) the principle that what can go wrong, will go wrong, usually with some observed degree of irony Its Sod's law that it will rain when going for a picnic. [edit] Sorry, I keep forgetting that you don't necessarily know all the same sayings. Cassy
Mommyof4ks
For us it is light bulbs. I change no less than 15 light bulbs every time dh is out of town compared to maybe one a month otherwise. At least I can reach them with a ladder. A beeping smoke alarm that i could not reach would bug me for sure.
happyhomemaker25
My mom was having s horrible dream one night that there was a bomb about to go off. She was trying to get everyone out but they did not believe her. She woke up and heard this beeping and started yelling for everyone to get out because of the bomb. Turns out it was just the smoke detector. LOL
