Can anyone explain to me why....

Recommended Posts

the smoke detector battery always has to start dying and beeping in the middle of the night.:glare: At 3:41 a.m.? When dh is out of town? In a spot where the ceiling is ten feet high? That I cannot reach at all? Which causes the dogs to try to get on top of my head in the bed???? When I am having a dinner party this evening?

Just wonderin'

I always assumed that they died in the middle of the night because it's colder then, and temperature does affect batteries. As for the rest of your catalogue of misfortune, I think that can only be adequately explained by what I've come to know as "Sod's Law".

Hope your day gets better.

Years ago (more than 11) we had a middle of the night beeping. A few minutes after it started going off, I heard a loud crash so I jumped up to find out that my father had flung his beeper across the room and knocked over a picture.

10 minutes after it started, we figured out it was the smoke alarm!

Thanks. I hope it gets better, too!

What is "Sod's Law?"

Okay, maybe peculiar to us Brits. Murphy's Law?

From Wiki:

Noun

Sod's law (uncountable)

(slang) the principle that what can go wrong, will go wrong, usually with some observed degree of irony

Its Sod's law that it will rain when going for a picnic.

[edit]

Sorry, I keep forgetting that you don't necessarily know all the same sayings.
