justamouse
of some literary analysis on Macbeth that is not going to make me want to slap the author of the paper? I seriously cannot read any more of these, they are making my head explode and I'm starting to say nasty things to them in my head. Does anyone know of any Catholic/Christian analysis on the plays? MommyThrice
Have you looked at this? I bought the book and haven't gotten around to it, yet. I really like Leithart.

I just finished a wonderful Shakespeare unit w/my kids. We loved it! Some of our favorite resources for the Catholic analysis: In Search of Shakespeare (historian Michael Wood ......is streaming on Netflix--Absolutely recommend watching this prior to any Shakespeare study. http://www.ewtn.com/vondemand/audio/seriessearchprog.asp?seriesID=7136&T1= http://www.amazon.com/Shadowplay-Beliefs-Politics-William-Shakespeare/dp/B000MKYKYK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1331255365&sr=8-

We have watched In Search of Shakespeare. I love what we've done, I love how our study is segueing right in with our philosophy, and how the studies are making the kids ask deep questions and come up with incredible connections, but these beyond stupid analysis of the plays (I'm just trying to make sure I cover the bases) are making me want to shake something. justamouse
I was very pleased with the Progeny Press guide to Macbeth. It's not specifically Roman Catholic, but it is Christian. And I second the recommendation of the documentary "In Search of Shakespeare". It was very good. Thank you! It just seems to reduce the depth of the plays, this relativistic analysis I'm reading. Avila
http://www.ignatiusinsight.com/authors/josephpearce.asp Check out Joseph Pearce's resources on Shakespeare. He is top notch. :001_smile:
justamouse
8, your link on EWTN's recordings of Pearce's work and Shadowplay sent me happily surfing to find excactly what I was looking for (in addition to adding many books to my cart!), and look at how many others they've done! Macbeth, at Ignatius Press. And they have study guides. Arguably the darkest of all Shakespeare’s plays, Macbeth is also one of the most challenging. Is it a work of nihilistic despair, “a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing”, or is it a cautionary tale warning of the dangers of Machiavellianism and relativism? Does it lead to hell and hopelessness, or does it point to a light beyond the darkness? This critical edition of Shakespeare’s classic psychological drama contains essays by some of today’s leading critics, exploring Macbeth as a morality play, as a history play with contemporary relevance, and as a drama that shows a vision of evil and that grapples with the problem of free will. The Ignatius Critical Editions represent a tradition-oriented alternative to popular textbook series such as the Norton Critical Editions or Oxford World Classics, and are designed to concentrate on traditional readings of the Classics of world literature. Whereas many modern critical editions have succumbed to the fads of modernism and post-modernism, this series will concentrate on tradition-oriented criticism of these great works. Edited by acclaimed literary biographer, Joseph Pearce, the Ignatius Critical Editions will ensure that traditional moral readings of the works are given prominence, instead of the feminist, or deconstructionist readings that often proliferate in other series of 'critical editions'.[snip] Edited March 9, 2012 by justamouse

Teachin'Mine
We're not at Macbeth yet, but I'm going to attempt to add a tag here as this will be much needed info in another year or two. :)
