Susan in TN
I bought a huge 33lb bag of organic sugar without first figuring out where I would store it after opening the bag. I have room for about 8lbs in my regular kitchen containers, but have no idea what to do with the rest. Can I leave it in the (heavy plastic) bag that it came in and just tape it shut? Does it have to be in an airtight container? I'm guessing this will last us a good long time since we don't use a whole lot of sugar. KS_
I'd probably store it in the bag in a 5 gallon bucket. Depending on how humid it is where you are, airtight may or may not be important. It's quite dry here, so it's not an issue.
jennsmile
I agree 5 gallon bucket with a gamma lid, as we live in TX and it is humid.
Kathleen in LV
FYI -- You can often get 5 gallon buckets free at the bakery of your local grocery store.
KS_
FYI -- You can often get 5 gallon buckets free at the bakery of your local grocery store. Depends on the store - all the ones I go to, charge $1 or $2.
Tap
If you have excess canning jars, you can store it in those. Toss a saltine cracker on top to help with any moisture.
