momma aimee
does everyone use them together? how dependent on each other are they, or are they totally unconnected? Is WWE really a first grade text / program? or would it be too much for a young first grader lacking handwriting and writing skills.
Ruby Rose
We use FFL1 now for 1st and will start WWE1 either late this year or next. I hear a lot of people use it a year behind FFL. I believe they are independent of one another.
boscopup
They can be used together, but many people don't. I use them at different levels. Next year, I'll only be using WWE. They fit nicely together, but are also both independent programs. WWE1 requires being able to copy one sentence. There is a short sentence and a long sentence, so you can choose which one. I started it halfway through 1st grade with a writing phobic boy (but no diagnosed issues - he's probably on the low end of "normal" as far as fine motor goes), and that was a perfect time to start for him. We did the short sentence throughout the course. You could always get WWE1 now, try it. If it's too much (or if, looking through it, you think it will be too much too soon), shelve it for another 6 months or more and try again later. The copywork isn't the hard part of WWE1. The narration leading questions can be killer sometimes due to difficult passages (old language, lots of details, etc.). So that's the biggest thing I'd look at - is your child ready for that or not. I think that's the main reason some folks start it in 2nd grade. But again, you can try it and see.
JenniferLynn
I am using both FLL1 and WWE1 with my kindergartner. We began in the Fall when she finished OPGTR. There is some overlap in narration, and I try to space that out so we aren't doing it on the same days. I've liked FLL for the poem memory work. There is a lot of review and we have been able to put it down for a week or two (or 3) and then pick up again easily. WWE was good for the copy work (handwriting was her weaker skill) and about 8 weeks/lessons into it there was noticeable improvement in the questions and narration. I like the flexibility of both. We do math & spelling every day but it is easy to fit in FLL and WWE by sometimes doubling up on lessons or letting it sit on the shelf for a few weeks. Marie131
We are not using FLL but I just started WWE1 with my first grader who is very workbook phobic and writing resistant (unless it is on his own initiative). He has also always struggled w/ fine motor skills. We are only a few weeks in, but so far it has been going well. I find the methods very gentle and I am amazed to already be seeing results! momtoamiracle
I'll be using FLL for first grade in the fall so I'm interested in what WWE is.

NancyNellen
I am a lover of FLL and have never used WWE. I prefer to just do copywork/dictation in our other subjects and being a writing program (CW) in 4th grade.
sditz1
I use both, I feel that they compliment each other.
Tracy
We use WWE but not FLL. I just didn't want to do grammar this early. Dd gets a little bit of it through SWR, and I wanted to focus on other things at this age. I do think that it is very appropriate for a 1st grader. Although dd is a bit advanced in other areas, she is probably a little behind in handwriting skills. She doesn't have problems with fine motor skills, but her stamina is pretty poor. Dd struggled with narration prior to using WWE. Part of that was that I didn't know what to expect, and part of that was that dd has always resisted recounting what she has either read or done. Now, with the help of WWE, the narration comes fairly easily to her, but the copywork is still a struggle. However, WWE along with the writing in SWR have greatly improved her writing stamina. I think you will find lots of people have the opposite problem. I would not recommend the copywork for a child that is not reading, but I think that the narration exercises are vital for this age.
