earthmother
What are your favorite picture books (preschoolers-grade 3 or so) that are about other countries (fiction or non-fiction). I am trying to compile some of the best books for my kids in regards to geography studies and want to do it through great picture books. thanks so much
Once
Donnaward.ca has a great selection of picture books about Canada and Africa. The list is too long for me to type in. I think the printable catalogue is easier to navigate. It is only about 6 pages. There is always Ping.
dragons in the flower bed
What are your favorite picture books (preschoolers-grade 3 or so) that are about other countries (fiction or non-fiction). Don't miss the Felix books (Felix Explores Planet Earth, Felix Joins the Circus, others). A teddy bear is lost, but sends his owner letters from all of the places he ends up on his journey home, describing what he's found around him. The letters are lengthy and include souvenirs, like a sticker. They're tucked inside actual envelopes pasted to the pages. Secondly, even if you have to buy them used and sight unseen, don't miss the This is . . . series, This Is London, This is Paris, This is New York, etc. The illustrations and narrative descriptions are delightful, written right to little guys. It feels like being there and touring.

runningirl71
One of my favorites I'm partial to because I lived there and was 2 hours away from this splendid site is: The Great Wall of China If you are doing geography studies, this book does have a map in the front that shows the great wall across China. I love the black and white illustrations and the Chinese written on the pages. :)

Rosie_0801
Here's a list of Australian books. My personal favourite is 'Turramulli and the Giant Quinkin' by Percy Trezise and Dick Roughsey. They are aboriginal artists and wrote quite a few books together. "Dot and the Kangaroo" is also good if you can find a picture book version. It was a children's show, but the book has lovely pictures. http://www.downunderlit.com/index_files/booklist.htm :) Rosie

mcconnellboys
Here are some I used with a World Geography study for grammar stage: I have a book by DK called Children Just Like Me: Celebrations.
