In the Rain
My dd10 has a great memory for events and words. She can recall exact conversations and lengthy passages from books she has read once. She can not remember numbers. She had a very difficult time learning math facts. She still can't say my phone number, or even dh's number. We've had these numbers for 6 years!!!! :tongue_smilie: When weighing bulk items at the grocery store, I've noticed she can recall a 3 digit number, but not a 4 digit number. Does this make sense? Is there a way to use her memory for words to help her memory for numbers?
kalanamak
Does this make sense? Is there a way to use her memory for words to help her memory for numbers? I remember numbers by the pattern on a phone pad. My number memory skyrocketed when dial phones were replaced. I also know if I'm right by the tune (I can hear the push tones and give a good guess on the number, and when I call home, e.g., I know it should start the tune Camp Town Races five miles long.) She could try seeing the words to the numbers, not the symbols. Could you type out the crucial numbers and have her read them? HTH
ktgrok
I'm like this. I don't know how to help her though. I got in trouble for not using "my own words" in papers in school, but I wasn't copying, I just had memorized passages without realizing it. Cant' remember a phone number to save my life though. HTH This is an interesting idea. Maybe if she wrote out the number words instead of the numerals, it would help. I'll have her try that. Thanks! I'm like this. I don't know how to help her though. At least she applies them correctly. :001_smile:
