Amazon Prime Members?

The free shipping is very addicting. I certainly spend more money on Amazon because of the shipping. I even get some of my groceries from them. I haven't got in the habit of using it for videos.

:iagree:

You might want to check the pirce of a few subscribe & save things, household goods etc. I use prime for cereals (Kashi) LIma beans, papertowells, wipes, and laundry detergent.

I love not having to remember to buy paper towels and wipes... for some reason I can never get them bought at the store, I totally forget even if they are on the list.

I like the free 2-day UPS shipping. I dislike USPS deliving packages. They do not usually arrive in pristine condition. Amazon offers free shipping on orders over $25 but I would have to wait until I had that much merchandise at one time in order to place an order. I'm an impatient person. I want my stuff ASAP. Also, I should admit that I assuming their super saving shipping is delivered by USPS because their website says items will be delivered in 5 to 8 business days.

Regular price for Prime is like $80/year. Some people don't think that is worth it. I see it as $6.67/month which is a small amount to pay to know I can order anything I want at anytime I want for free 2-day shipping.

I don't even use the online streaming. I have Prime strictly for free 2-day shipping.

They give you a free 30 day subscription which self-expires with the purchase of a Kindle.

I got the Kindle because I cannot store books anymore, and I really don't order from them. I don't see any benefit to me unless I wanted to switch streaming companies. I pay about 16 bucks a month now for Netflix but am a really heavy user of it, almost daily.

I don't know if the choices on Amazon are better than Netflix, any opinions? I only use it for documentaries & educational stuff pretty much. Very rarely do I watch anything else.

Yes, you do want it. Free two day shipping is addicting.

I LOVE it! I also wonder why I waited so long to join. My adult children talked me into doing the trial and I wanted to kick myself for not doing it sooner. I joined in October of last year and it has more than paid for itself with all the birthday and Christmas shopping shipping fees I would have been paying with each order.

I think if you already shop with Amazon frequently then it is a fantastic deal!

eta - I don't really watch much of the streaming stuff from Amazon so I'm not sure if it really compares with Netflix. I have watched a few of the newer Duggar episodes (which aren't available on NF) and the streaming worked well for me. Not sure if that helps you or not. :) probably not.

Considering the price of gas and where we live, this would cost just a tad more than ONE trip driving into town-----let alone my time and energy. Might have to look into this.

My friend in Alaska is a member and they order lots of groceries this way as it is way cheaper for them.

To answer the question about streaming - I don't like it as well as other ways of watching things. We dropped Netflix streaming because they don't seem to have what we want on the streaming side of things. So take it for what its worth. Amazon has a long list but that doesn't mean it is worth watching. They are adding more all the time, just not documentaries that I can see.

For me the search function is annoying on Amazon. The pornography is mixed in with the documentaries and you just have to keep scrolling until you find what you want. There aren't many ways to narrow it down.

I love it.

the two-day shipping is very nice, the two-day "included" shipping for a $5 item is addicting. I no longer have to save up my purchases until I hit $25 so I don't have to pay shipping, and I get my items much faster. Ocassionaly I get things overnight.

(that said, I'm quite perturbed my item didn't arrive yesterday, even though I had notice it shipped on monday. :glare: the other item I ordred - that shipped afterwards - arrived on tuesday.)

eta: oh yeah, and the not having to run all over looking for a particular book is so nice.

LOVE Prime. So worth it for me, especially when I have lots of little ones at home and I can't easily run errands. Usually their prices beat our local retailers, and no tax to top if off!

Occasionally, they will send an item fed-ex'd overnight (even though I didn't order it that way), to ensure the 2 day delivery. I have to laugh to myself when I have had to open the door, sign for the package, and see a "premium overnight" sticker, and it is a box of crayons or a pack of rulers.

The movies are so-so, but we occasionally find something educational or an interesting documentary.

I am generally a very frugal person, and it is a must have for me at this point.

Prime is nice, but you don't have to pay for it. Amazon mom prime is open right now. You just need to order $25 in qualifying purchases for each free month of prime. You don't get the movies, etc., but they don't have the choices that Netflix does anyway, and like someone said, no good way to search and porn mixed right in with everything. Ew.

Are you talking about ordering groceries? Spending $25/month for the benefit of receiving an $80/year service seems a bit odd. But if one is already buying such items on Amazon, then receiving Prime membership is a very cool bonus!

It isn't strictly "per month". I ordered ds's high chair in December and got quite a few months of Mom Prime credit.

Be aware... Amazon Mom does not include Kindle lending. That's regular Prime only.

I don't have Prime at the moment, but I wanted to chime in and say I use Amazon for much more than books & videos. Dh and I frequently check Amazon's price when we need to buy something. Having Prime would be nice so I don't have to wait until I have $25 in product to get the free shipping (I have no problems with the condition of the boxes--I don't believe USPS delivers Amazon here, it's either FedEx, UPS or a private courier). Besides Christmas and Birthday gifts, I use Amazon for non-consumable household items too. I haven't bought groceries or paper products there yet.

I check a lot of things against Amazon's price, and a lot of times Amazon is cheaper.

They also drop prices on things like crazy, so if you check at just the right time you can get an awesome deal. Today for a little bit there was a box set of books for 1st-3rd grade girls for something like 14 bucks, they are regularly 60 dollars plus.

Well, except I've never had Netflix. But I believe Amazon's choices are worse. I totally agree with disliking Amazon's search function.

But, hey, we generally only watch Star Trek reruns or things like that. As I type, the kids are having a Dr. Who marathon -- they've hooked it up to the television. So we wouldn't use Netflix for much anyway.

On the other hand, a quick trip through my order history would find all sorts of weird non-book, non-streaming stuff. Eye droppers that I needed quickly for a co-op class. Same with magnifying glasses. Lots and lots of Christmas and birthday presents. Power cord adaptors. Granola bars. AND A FREE BORROW OF THE WOOL OMNIBUS on the Kindle, which is the coolest book series I've read in a long, long time. The list goes on and on.

I just wanted to mention that many grocery and household items are available with the subscribe and save option, generally a discount from their regular price if you subscribe to receive that item on a regular schedule which you pick (up to once every 6 months). You can cancel any time (even after just one shipment). Best of all, shipping on subscribe and save items is ALWAYS free, even if you don't have Prime--you don't have to meet any qualifying $ amount first.

Just FYI but in many states you are required to report your internet purchases on your tax return and pay taxes on them.

FYI on some changes Amazon has made to Amazon Moms for 2012.

Starting on January 24, 2012, the maximum discount available on diapers and wipes subscriptions will be 20%. This includes a 5% Subscribe & Save discount plus an additional 15% exclusively for Amazon Mom members who are earning free shipping benefits or have an active Amazon Prime membership.

Customers who join Amazon Mom in 2012 will get three months of free Two-Day Shipping benefits. Once the initial free period is over, customers can join Amazon Prime to continue to receive full access to Amazon Mom and Amazon Prime benefits.

If you have not yet joined Amazon Prime, the additional 15% Amazon Mom discount on diapers and wipes subscriptions will expire on January 24, 2012 .

To continue receiving all the benefits of Amazon Mom, you will need to join Amazon Prime for $79.00 year.

If you're on the fence about joining Amazon Prime it looks like you can give it a 3 month test drive with Amazon Mom but after the 3 months are up you'll have to sign up for Prime to continue getting the discounts and free 2-day shipping. Edited by Curly

I buy books, of course, both Kindle and paper. I also buy dog food. Thirty pounds of premium food delivered to my front door for cheaper than the nearest (still 50 miles away!) place to buy it? And I don't have to wrangle three kids while trying to get it into my trunk in the parking lot? Or use up a whole tank of gas? Or spend an entire morning on that one errand? Yes, please!

If you buy heavy or large things, the free 2-day or $3.99 overnight delivery is awesome. They once overnighted me a 100 lb steel playground climber for $3.99. It's also great for those things you forgot about until the last minute.

I haven't watched anything on the free Prime streaming yet, but since they added Little Bear I think we will be soon. Just keep in mind that the streaming and the Kindle lending are perks. They aren't the main point of the Prime subscription, the free quick shipping is.
