Ruthie in MS
My dd5 will be in 1st grade next year. This year we are doing A Beka and she hates it. She is bored out of her mind. She is a "Wiggle Willie" who loves stories and hands-on stuff but also likes a worksheet every now and then. We have several file folder games that I have made that she likes doing. I need a phonics and reading curriculum thats practically open and go and that meets her needs. She has caught on to reading pretty good and I don't want to bore her and make her hate school more than she already does. I know I suggested AAS/AAR and LLATL. They have caught my eye and I can't decide between the two but I also want to know if there isn't another curriculum out there that I haven't heard of or considered. I need help, ladies. Thanks in advance.
Tidbits of Learning
I haven't done LLATL blue, but we did do LLATL red and it was fun. You also get books from the library every so often. We loved Little Bear. I haven't done AAS/AAR at all. I found LLATL meets our needs without being too teacher-intensive.
LMD
I have used LLATL Blue, Red and now Yellow. We really like it here. I find LLATL very open and go. Blue starts with the very basics of learning to read, you may want to check out the scope and sequence to see. We do Blue for K and Red for 1st. KristenR
I'm not familiar with LLATL so I can't give my opinion on that. However my 5 year old is working through AAS and we love it. I have a couple blog posts if you want to get an idea about how we use it here and here. Also, I just started my middle daughter on AAR's PreReading level and we LOVE it. She is a little wiggle worm and all their bells and whistles go a long way in holding her attention. My initial review on AAR is here.
