kfeusse
I am so sick of buying can openers that work for a very short time and then stop opening cans....so I want to buy one really good one. thanks.
Belacqua
Love my Oxo. Not too expensive, thick handles that don't hurt my hands, seems to work perfectly well. I've had it for years, so I'm assuming they're pretty durable.
Mallorie
Pampered Chef. Going on about a year, so not very long term yet, but it seems to be going well, and I like that it doesn't leave a sharp edge.

kfeusse
I owned a PC can opener, it always worked...when I could figure out how to hold it...I never got the knack for it though and sold it at a garage sale.

Baseball mom
I am so sick of buying can openers that work for a very short time and then stop opening cans....so I want to buy one really good one. thanks. I thought it was just me and can openers. Electric, manual makes no difference they all are bad.
jenL
Pampered Chef. I've had mine for at least 10 years. Still sharp, easy to use, and cleans easily.
SunnyDays
I have this one, and I *love* it!! http://www.target.com/p/OXO-SoftWorks-Smooth-Edge-Can-Opener/-/A-13567823 It's the only one I've ever had that hasn't immediately broken. I may go buy a couple more to keep in reserve for future years, LOL!! It opens smoothly and you don't have to crank until your arm hurts. I can't use an electric can opener to save my life, so this is perfect for us.
kfeusse
there must be something seriously wrong with me...you all LOVE your PC one or the OXO one that appears to be a similar style....I must have a defect in my make-up somehow....sigh!!! Baseball mom
Stepmom has a One Touch that she has had for several years with no problems. I think I am going to try one. It uses 2 AA batteries but I need something that works.
kfeusse
this is the one I used to have and loved it...but I lost it on a camping trip. Do you own this one...or one that was made 20 years ago...in other words, according to the reviews, this one is a cheaper version of the original one...just curious. thanks. I am talking about the swing away....I forgot to quote it.
Brigitte
I have a Swingway hand held can opener that I have had for 24 years. It is the heavier duty one, probably $10, but well worth it.
kwickimom
pampered chef here too!! Mine is about 5 years old
LizzyBee
Pampered Chef. I've had it for years, but it is still like new.
AuntieM
LOVE my OXO. DH picked it up at the Williams-Sonoma store but I think you can get them at Bed Bath & Beyond and use a 20% coupon. I loved my Pampered Chef opener until it wore out (more than decade!). I don't even know if the PC ones are made the same these days! A.Balaban
I so needed this thread. We keep throwing money out on can openers. So we gave up and bought one for like $1 at Ikea and well, it's been like six months and it's not working very well so we need to replace it. Last can we tried to open we had to get the bolt cutters out. Even though I am not the OP, I think I will go check out the Oxo!! Thank you! Tree Frog
Stepmom has a One Touch that she has had for several years with no problems. I think I am going to try one. It uses 2 AA batteries but I need something that works. I have this one and it works well. The only problem I have is frequently it trims off some of the label as it's cutting off the lid, causing the little, teeny, tiny strips of paper to fall into the food in the can. Does the Pampered Chef cut part of the label, too?
Kareni
We have this Kuhn Rikon can opener. This kind of opener breaks the can's seal leaving a smooth edge on the can. We've have it for a number of years and are pleased with it. Regards, Kareni
bettyandbob
another pampered chef vote. Mine's about 10 years.
Onceuponatime
Every manual can opener I've had for the last 30 years has broken within a year except an ancient can opener my mother gave me when I left home. It's still going strong. It doesn't have a brand name on it, but it was made in America. :-)
swellmomma
I just get a starfrit one from the walmart (handcrank not electric), I buy a new one each year but they are less than $10 so I don't care. I will have to look into the pampered chef ones when I am due for a new one, I did not know they made them

LostSurprise
I killed several common can openers (including Kitchen Aid and OXO) but I ordered a Swingaway from Amazon and its still going strong 3 years later.
JumpedIntoTheDeepEndFirst
I have a 13+ yo Pampered Chef model and a newer Oxo. I think I prefer the Oxo. I threw away the one that uncrimped and removed the top. It was junk.
Pippen
I like my Pampered Chef but my first one only lasted about four years, odd since I don't use that many canned foods.
Forget-Me-Not
Mine is a Kitchen-Aid brand and I love it.
HomeOnTheRanch
I got a Swing-A-Way as a wedding gift 20+ years ago. It started slipping a few years ago so I replaced it with one of those that doesn't leave a sharp edge. That one lasted about a year. I've gone through 3 more can openers in the last year. I think my problem was we started buying most of our cans from the Cash 'n Carry...HUGE cans. I finally decided that I needed to get my can openers from the restaurant supply store. I got this one http://www.amazon.com/Amco-Swing--6090-Crank-Opener/dp/B001CD77VO/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1330316404&sr=8-5 and I really like it. The kids actually beg to open the cans. It makes it so quick, fun, and easy. It was cheap enough that I won't feel bad replacing it every year, but it seems to be sturdy.
Shellers
I've had a Swing-A-Way can opener for about five years. I have no complaints. It works every time and doesn't clutter up my counter tops.
