What are your favorite picture books for the words?

I would like the kids to do some of their poetry memorizing in the early years through good books. I was inspired the other day when I heard a 4 year old reciting Where the Wild Things Are.

My favorites are almost anything written by Cynthia Rylant. Her books can be rather real life though and I am hoping to get more poetic and imaginative books.

I was going to say Jamberry too  It was the first thing I thought of. DD6 loves that book still.

Hmm, Madeline is another we can recite nearly from memory. Here are more:

The Night Before Christmas

Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?

Any of the If You Give a Mouse a Cookie-type books

Room on the Broom

Bear Snores On (and its sequels)

Llama Llama Red Pajama (and its sequels)

The Napping House

We're Going on a Bear Hunt

Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus

Millions of Cats

The Gingerbread Boy (some iterations are more well-written than others--we have the Paul Galdone one)

The Sandra Boynton books

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No-Good, Very Bad Day

(Can you tell I'm sitting on the floor of DD6's room, going through her bookshelf?)

That's all I've got for now. I like your concept! I'll be :bigear: for more ideas.
