Elizabeth in MN
Though and interesting article it doesn't really do much to dispel what the original article wrote IMO. The author did really well until she began to recount her own educational experience.
Catwoman
Good heavens. She just went on and on and on and on and on and on............ It wasn't long before I stopped reading and started skimming. I'm sure she made some good points, but I must admit that most of them were probably lost on me, because I was too busy wondering when the incredibly lengthy autobiographical section would finally end. I'm kind of sleepy right now, so maybe that's why I couldn't get through it without dozing. I'll give it another chance in the morning. LucyStoner
I hope the author of this post is teaching her kids to edit their writing better than that. About 3/4 of that needed to be cut out to get the same point across.
thescrappyhomeschooler
Too much personal info. I'd like to see a less biographical response to the Slate article.
Kathleen in VA
NittanyJen posted another article from The Atlantic that was more succinct. http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showthread.php?t=350376
dangermom
Yeah, way too long, but I did like her whole "profoundly uncritical institutional thought" line. Zing! It reminded me of that one great essay, "The Disadvantages of an Elite Education," when the girl raises her hand and says, "You mean, we're all like really excellent sheep?" Rivka
There's a nice response from a liberal parent who did leave his kids in public school here. And would it be gauche of me to plug a post I wrote in my own blog last year, called Does Homeschooling Violate Liberal Values?
dangermom
Rivka, I loved your post so thanks for plugging yourself! :)

mom4peace
Here's my reply to the original article. It includes a possible definition of liberal homeschooling as well. Comments appreciated. mom4peace
And here's the link to Dana Goldstein's second go at progressive/liberal homeschooling. It's not, IMO, an improvement. Perhaps she starts off the wrong way with her title: "Progressive Homeschooling" is an Oxymoron. <sigh>
