Mommamia
using the SWI or TWSS first? Basically, I'm wondering if I can just use our theme book without using SWI first, or watching TWSS? Thank you!
Pam L in Mid Tenn
You need to understand the process first. Is there a way you could borrow TWWSS first? OR Do you have a friend nearby that could teach you the process? It is not hard... just a little different. You'd have to understand the terms. "Dress-ups" and such. Mommamia
Thank you! I do understand the "dress ups", etc, and actually do have a friend who could explain it to me. :001_smile:
Bloggermom
I find them easiest to use after my son went through most of SWI-A.
swainsonshawk
I've owned two theme books (Fun and Fascinating, Ancient World). But I am having more success going through SWI with my children (ds 13, ds 11). I would like to use the theme books in the future, but I will finish the SWI series first--I'm really enjoying it. The pacing is good for my kids (weaker writers) and I think I tried to move my kids through the theme books too fast.
Whereneverever
Do you guys know if there's any way to get the twss and swi subtitled? I have the DVDs and we can't make it through without the subtitles.
Laura W.
We're using theme books (Fun and Fascinating, Medieval History) this year. I'm watching the TWSS dvds, though. I know there would be gaps in my ability to teach if I didn't. I would highly recommend using them along with the theme books. Blessings, Laura
EllaMinnowPea
In my opinion, you (the teacher) really do need the TWSS DVDs. They provide the foundation for the theme books.
laughing lioness
I used to rep for IEW and worked several conventions. The people who were frustrated with the program and came to the booth to complain about it, invariably tried to use a theme book without watching the TWSS first. Dress ups are a part of the program. I'd really recommend watching the TWSS first.
Sew happily ever after
I have been using ancient based book successfully BUT I am familiar w the methods. It makes sense to me. That said I have since borrowed the twss because I was curious so I am working through them slowly.
NittanyJen
So you can read through/watch TWSS and either use your own materials for a while as outlined there, or move into Ancients without having to go through an intermediate program first if it makes sense to you, right? deeinfl
I don't think I would have been able to pull off All Things Fun and Fascninating if I had not watched the SWI with my son. It made everything so much clearer. There are units, like unit 4 where you are writing from a source/sources and fusing an outline...I know I wouldn't have even understood this lesson without the SWI, so yes, either one will do, an SWI, or a TWSS.
