Leonor
Ds has already been accepted to school of choice. It really bothers me that top colleges accept homeschool transcripts and yet our local state university questions them. He is not attending said university; however, I don't know if that would be the sentiment of local community offering this scholarship. I don't know if to adjust his transcript for purposes of a local scholarship. It's only a one time $1,000. A friend whose dd was a receipient of said scholarship last year included the following on her transcript and had it signed by a teacher. "This certifies that the information contained in this transcript for ___student name____is an accurate representation of the courses she has taken and the grades she has received." ____________ teacher name and # Would you do this? Unless the signing teacher had some kind of insight into what we'd done over the years (like being a portfolio reviewer), I wouldn't have someone else sign a transcript I was the authority for. What happens if they do call that teacher and the teacher can't answer any questions about the content or quality of the courses? I think I have read of some people having transcripts notarized. That would put an official stamp on the document that it was original and unaltered, without implying oversight of the contents.

One of the things that I did with dd and am currently doing with our boys, is have an "oversight" teacher friend that I kept in the loop. In this case, it is a dear friend who is the principal of a private Lutheran K-8 school in our county and who has a master's degree in education and is working on her PH.D. Not only do we email two or three times per year with updates and what not, I let her grade a couple of writing assignments or term papers every year. This gives me outside imput on my child's writing progress and if gives me someone "in the know" to fall back on for official signatures if I need one. She also signed dd's high school diploma underneath dh's and my signatures. At the beginning of each year, I send her a PDF file of all of my high school course syllabi for that year. She isn't involved in the day to day running of our homeschool and she doesn't make any decisions about what we study and when, but she does get enough personal knowledge about it to know if she would feel comfortable signing something official for us or not. She's an awesome educator and it also helps hold me accountable because truly, the last thing I want to hear from her is, "You are falling down on the job." My advice is to call the scholarship committee directly and ask what would be acceptable. But, do not ask someone to take the risk of signing if they have no direct knowledge of your academic content. This could put them in a very awkward position. If you have time, you could possibly take a portfolio of work from each year, plus reading lists, and curriculum lists to someone you know who is a professor, teacher, school administrator, professional tutor, etc. and ask them if they would be comfortable evaluating the work and lists you provide and signing the transcript.
