wy_kid_wrangler04
For history (what time period are you studying?), for science (again, what are you studying?), classics, and whatever else they are reading. I am trying to make dd's reading list for next year, and want to get 2-3 lit guides to go with books. Before I can decide what lit guides to buy, I need to get a list together of what I want her to read

2_girls_mommy
Mine is not 5th yet. We are in the planning stages now too. She has recently read Little Women and Number the Stars. We are in the Modern era. I am getting my list together this weekend for next year too. I am thinking of using as a place to start Classical House of Learning's logic stage ancients lists and assignments. I will leave out the week that she comments on about not being appropriate. I am still trying to get someone on here to answer some questions I have about this particular guide. But after rereading Logic Stage reading section in WTM I think it will be fine for us. For science I am thinking of using Memoria Press' science as a starting point. I am very excited about the medicine book they use. I don't have any particular titles besides it yet, as I have just settled on this. But I will want some biographies.
Karen in CO
In history right now she's reading a big box of Horrible Histories, SWB's History of the Medieval World, and the Cartoon Guide to the Modern World (she already finished the cartoon guide to the universe). For science, she's been reading from our shelf of single topic science books. I think her current one is What Einstein Told His Cook (or something like that). We have a lot of books like THIS ONE from the scientists in the field series which she really enjoyed reading. For classics, she just finished her second time through Swiss Family Robinson. She really enjoyed Verne this year along with a collection from Francis Hodgson Burnett. Edited February 20, 2012 by Karen in CO

HappyCamper
Great thread. I am so glad to learn about the scientists in the field series. Right now, DD9 is gobbling up The Great Brain series by Fitzgerald. For school this year, we are reading the MCT Literature program - Alice and Wonderland, Peter Pan, and The Wind in the Willows. This has been a much bigger hit than I anticipated. We also are reading books related to our history curriculum such as The Door in the Wall, Beowolf, and King Arthur. Penelope
I'm not there yet, but I'm considering the second MCT grouping of books for fifth next year (A Connecticut Yankee and the others). We really enjoyed the first group this year, but were not quite ready for the next. And I know either The Bronze Bow or The Black Fox of Lorne will also be on the list.
