If you buy the book, which covers lab sessions for both first- and second-year chemistry, you'll need to buy chemicals and equipment separately. I'm told that most people who've used the book have spent $500 to $900 for materials to cover both years. The kit includes documentation, but covers only first-year chemistry lab sessions. If you intend to use this kit, you don't need the book.
