trailofsparks
 I have had this happen before.... Dealt with them by several emails containing threats that if they don't stop harassing me with unsolicited magazines and subsequent billing, I would report them to the BBB. They stopped. But it looks like a couple years later and they are at it again. I'm not interested in going through this again, wasting my time and energy. Do you ever get this hassle from any company? What if I just ignore them? Can they tag my credit rating? is it even legal what they're doing? Sheesh.
Mrs Mungo
I've only had this happen once and it was with Sports Illustrated. I complained and asked for higher ups until I got someone who could tell me what happened. They said we received it because of some offer that came with our credit card or something that we did not specifically decline. I started noticing a lot of places (for example, the site where we order pizza) where you would receive a "free" issue of this or that magazine unless you specifically declined it. I guess they bill you after the initial "free" magazine? They are easy to miss unless you are really paying attention. It's easy to click through to the next screen without seeing that you have to check a box in order to decline the special offer.
elegantlion
Most times you can write cancel on the bill and send it in. I've never had an issue doing that when they offer a free issue. I never had the other issue however.

I'd really like to see this practice made illegal and I'm so NOT a "There outta be a law!" type. You should have to choose to buy something; not specifically choose NOT to. It's sneaky and I'm guessing they get a lot of money this way.

Once place online that does it (or at least used to) is Vistaprint.com if you've ever ordered from them. Another is Cooking.com. Somewhere during checkout it's mentioned somewhere (sometimes in small print) and unless you uncheck the box you'll get it.
russiantwins
it is very frustrating. I would try writing on the bill and mailing it in. If it happens again, call. Hassle...
KungFuPanda
I think it was the America's Test Kitchen website that got me. :glare:

I just placed an order with them a couple weeks ago but I used my Paypal account. It actually just arrived today. :glare: Now I'm worried. trailofsparks
Have you recently entered any magazines' sweepstakes online? I've noticed they have a few boxes to UN-check now( you have to actually uncheck each box) before you enter the contest, and some of them are for subscribing to their mags. No...no sweepstakes. I'm sure I've done nothing to deserve this ;) Thanks, everyone. I will certainly be more careful online, uncheck any stupid little boxes :D I will return the bill, unpaid of course, with the word cancel written across it. This beats phone calls and emails! We used them last year for one thing and didn't start getting any random magazines. ;)

The only issue I had was when I started getting a magazine once that I didn't know I'd ordered. I don't think they do that anymore, though, because I've ordered from them since then and haven't seen it where it's automatically chosen (I've seen it as an option offered, but not automatically chosen). VistaPrint is great over all. I always choose the slowest shipping (21 days), but it ever, ever takes that long. More like two weeks, or just under.
