kwickimom
Is there anywhere that I can get info on running a group? Anyone that has started one have any tips? Our little homeschool group in my town is growing by leaps and bounds and so we are looking into streamlining and setting up a mission statement and rules and things like that. Just wondering if there are any blogs or websites or info anywhere out there that could give me some ideas as to what you do? Just kind of checking out how others are run to get some ideas. We basically meet for social reasons (gym day, parties, park, etc) and are not really looking into doing any classes or anything of the sort anytime soon. We like to support and be there for each other (all our current members are all friends and hang out for ladies night out and such) so I am mainly needing ideas on rules and ideas of things that need put in place and wrote down so that we can run smoothly and have some organization. TIA!!!
Unicorn.
:lurk5: bumping. I know I've seen others ask similar questions here, so there's bound to be some answers on this board somewhere.

mom2att
Carol Topp, Homeschool CPA has a book about Homeschool Co-ops. I know you're not looking for a co-op specifically, but she has plenty of organizational info that would be helpful. When I was expanding and changing our co-op, I did a lot of web searches on other homeschool groups. Many of them have handbooks, behavior statements, etc. online, and you can gain a lot of insight into how you want to operate based on what other people are doing. Our group started as a support group, expanded to include a very large co-op, and is now concentrating on building up the support group again. PM me if you'd like to see our policies and things like that. Best of luck!

Farrar
I started a small group for elementary homeschoolers in our area as an offshoot of a preschool group we were now all too old for. We just use Yahoo groups and hold events and I and other people use it as a sort of extended network to do park days or set up field trips or classes. I think we describe ourselves as "a loose group of friends" on our page. Not everyone knows each other that well, but most of us do know each other and hang out sometimes. For me, as the moderator, I don't have to do too much... I think of it a bit like a garden. When I water it and pay it a bit of attention by posting things, joining in and attending things, encouraging people to do stuff, then it thrives fine.
