Just genetics or something else? - Dark circles under eyes (Pics included)

Recommended Posts

My oldest is almost 20. He always had these in his childhood. I was tole they were due to allergies, they were noticeable because of his thin skin, he looked tired and pale. He no longer has them.

Dd12 now has these and we are told the same. I put a stick of concealer in her stocking this year and she wears it periodically. I hope she will also outgrow them.

Dairy intolerance was my first thought. We have similar colouring and we get them, too, though we have no milk and only a few people have cheese at our house. All the pp's have good ideas.

Some of us (3dc and myself) are gluten free, and really, it's not much more expensive because I just focus on fruit and vegetables, meat, potatoes and rice. I don't buy specific gluten-free replacements for bread, etc. I use blogs for ideas, and the little bit of baking I do is with rice flour which I buy on Amazon. Not saying it would work for you, or solve your beautiful dd's purple eyes, but it IS doable.

See, I am very ambivalent about the "allergy shiner" thing. I heard this about ds. I had/have them, my mother has them, my brother has them. To me, it just seems like delicate eye skin and a light complexion that does it. I agree that tired or sick or in poor health will make this look a lot worse, but in the case of some family genetics, I think there's just always going to be some of this.

I went on a long and arduous food elimination program with ds when he was little, but it never made any difference in any "symptom," including the purple eye circles.

This is our youngest too. No allergies, nothing.

Definitely worse when she is tired. She is just very fair and they stand out.

  • 9 years later...

Kind of random but we had a naturopath tell us it is sometimes due to parasites and he put my kiddo on a cleanse and it worked!

But allergies could be it. Mudge not even allergies add much as a food intolerance that doesn't necessarily show up on allergy testing.

Could be dehydration and not getting enough water, that helped one of my kids to significantly increase water intake.

Anyways just some thoughts 😁
