Tough choice! We enjoyed both. In B, the history is more sequential than topic-based. My kids actually liked the encyclopedia from core A better when they were older. But we loved the read-alouds in both. I think you'd do fine with either, go with the one that the ages of your kids fits with best. Merry :-)

Both have wonderful book selections. Look at the selections carefully and choose the one that will stretch your dc a bit. Core A read alouds have shorter reading times with a few pictures. Core B read alouds have longer reading times with fewer/no pictures. We did Core A when dd was 5.5 yo. The Core was terrific, but we added math, handwriting, LA 1, and science B which made the first experience of "real" school overwhelming. We ended up sending everything back 10 or so weeks in (which actually took us 15 weeks). I backed it down to math, handwriting, phonics/reading, and read alouds ala SL Core A with science books from the library thrown into the mix. The rest of the year was great!

If your ds is a beginning reader, I woukd go with Core A. This is my first time through Core A, but I have done Core B (a long time ago with ds 1). We are currently on Core A, dd will be six next month and is also a beginning reader. However, please keep in mind that your ds's attention span should be taken into consideration. Core B has less pictures and longer stories. If he would prefer the shorter stories, then you should go with Core A. They are not that much shorter, but there is a difference. Also, you can get whatever level readers your ds needs with either Core.
