Mammy5
I've been procrasting with planning Valentine's Day. What are you doing for Valentines day? Any fun craft ideas? Food Recipes? I'm also looking for a good read to teach them about St. Valentine. Thank you!
ScoutTN
We got some good ideas from the Family Fun website. Cute, easy to make valentines. We do heart shaped breakfast food (pancakes, breakfast casserole or fruit cut outs) and give our family cards and small gifts at breakfast. frugalmama
We don't do anything fancy, but DD has been making tons of valentines after watching the 2 valentine's Charlie Brown specials last night.
Missouri Okie
We're going to make chocolate covered strawberries to deliver to elderly friends. The only book I came up to read was Cupid and Psyche.
LittleIzumi
I bought the Amanda Bennet unit study for Valentine's Day when it was on sale for $4, so we'll be going through that!
Maus
Not sure yet what the kids and I will do... DH won't be around. His Barbershop Chorus has its big fund-raiser of the year on Valentines, selling singing Valentines. He'll be out with his quartet all day and evening singing love songs to other men's wives. (He'll owe me dinner another night this week.)
KristenR
I've been procrastinating on signing up for a local co-op's party. I was kind of leaning towards skipping it because this week is 'sort of' crazy. But yesterday my dd5 said something along the lines of "remember when we made mailboxes for last year's party- I hope we do that again". Eeeek!! Now I need to add this in and see if it's not too late to attend the party.
pitterpatter
Here are a couple of crafts My Mailbox (http://www.theeducationcenter.com/) has for free, but you have to register. I'm considering the mouse one...a valentine for Dad. :001_smile:
pitterpatter
There are some worksheets, clip art, games and other stuff for free at Scholastic Printables as well. Just scroll through and look for the "Free" tag. http://printables.scholastic.com/printables/search/?query=valentine
Mammy5
Thank you for your suggestions, we have printed out some cards from Family Fun. And, PitterPatter, my oldest loves the mouse! :) She is making it right now. Have a good day!
Mommee & Baba
I read a valentine book to the kids. I printed off a Valentine's Bingo and a Battleship type Valentine's game off a blog last year and the kids LOVED it. We'll be playing those. We used candy conversation hearts as our markers but since they contain wheat I purchased another type of valentine candy that is gluten free for them to use. We will do our regular planned lessons but our day will start off with a game and end with a game. We'll probably make some craft of somesort since the kids LOVE making anything to do with glitter, paper, paint, glue, scissors, and love...
pitterpatter
Oh, if anyone is looking for a really cute book to read to the PreK-1 or so crowd, this is it. :001_smile:

txhomemom
We might do some strawberries dipped in chocolate, not sure yet, since I am on a diet! I also have a gingerbread house leftover from Christmas (has not been opened yet) and I think it would look cute as a Valentine's Day Gingerbread House!
