Jumaanah
Hello! I am about to purchase the OPGTR and i want to get either The Modern Curriculum Press Phonics Practice Readers or The Bob Books. Which of the two readers will i find more beneficial to use along with the book?
Lots of boys
We used BOB books with this and it went really well. I find it matches up pretty well for the first three sets of Bob books and then BOB books add a bunch of words we haven't gotten to yet in OPGTR. I ended up having to suppliment a lot with readers from the library but that's o.k. with us as it was a nice change.

KristenR
We just incorporated tons of trips to the library and my girls can pick out books that appeal to their ever-changing interests.
Kathleen in LV
We also used the Bob Books with OPGTR, but we got them through the library. The way they slowly build on letter combinations is so much nicer than typical "beginning readers" that just have less words than other books, but words my son had not yet encountered in OPGTR. And my son loved to be able to read "real books" so early on. We're about halfway through OPGTR, and now we just supplement with other library books (and books already on our shelf) that my son finds interesting. Chrysalis Academy
I've used both. Bob books are great for the phonics, but they aren't as engaging for my dd as books with color pictures. I just discovered the Brian P. Cleary books, and DD read "The Bug in the Jug needs a Hug" totally independently yesterday, and was thrilled. The pictures are very engaging. aly9712
Most libraries even have the BOB books now....that way you can look at them. Also, there's a Bob Books app for ipad/iphone.
ErinE
I'm not sure if you've considered it, but the Nora Gaydos' books (Now I'm Reading!) are wonderful. My dd enjoys the stories and the pictures. There's gentle repitition built into the books so if she comes across a new word, it will show up in later sentences. I bought all five of the leveled readers (1, 1a, 2-4) and it's really helped reinforce the OPGTR lessons. We also use BOB books, but dd really enjoys the NIR. Yes, my dd used them and liked them. Or maybe she just liked the sense of accomplishment every time she would place a sticker on it. In any event, we do have a early level of these somewhere. I should find them and pull them out....
staceyobu
My kids are serious BOB books fans. I've never tried the others, but those BOB books will hold a special place in my heart now that I've watched two kids have reading success with them! My boys didn't enjoy Bob books very much, but they LOVED the Nora Gaydos books. My second two boys learned to read almost exclusively with these readers. I can't recommend them highly enough. A.Balaban
I was looking at OPGTR the other day and I came across this PDF. http://wtm-pdfs.s3.amazonaws.com/2010GuidetoSupplementaryReaders(2).pdf
wormbuy
We used both, we preferred the MCP readers. They are more story-like in IMO. I always wanted to try the Nora Gaydos ones, they look great.
Chris in VA
I used both--the first two sets of Bob, and the first 3 sets of Primary Phonics. I supplemented with my own, extremely simple paper books. It wasn't long before she was reading the Dr. Suess-Hop on Pop type books.
