Elm in NJ
Nero's gregarious and gratuitous exclamation gave you and me tangible rewards. My son had an online class this morning and after the class, he said that the teacher had said the subject was Nero's. Everyone else thought it was exclamation. I think it is exclamation too. What is it?

Sheila in OK
I agree it would be exclamation. 'Nero's' would be used as a possessive adjective in that sentence. 2_girls_mommy
Oh my. Of course it is exclamation. Was this his English teacher? Was he just having an unclear, unfocused moment? Because that is a pretty simple sentence. I was afraid to open this thread because I thought it was going to be some tricky thing that was going to embarrass me when I tried to figure it out. But that wasn't hard.

leeannpal
This question is an excellent example of how practical it is to know how to diagram a sentence:)

But that wasn't hard. Me, too. I have finally reached material in grammar that I-just-do-not-care-about......particles  :tongue_smilie: . I normally love grammar and teaching my kids, but last week we started hitting stuff that I could careless about knowing. But.....the subject of that sentence, oh my goodness.:tongue_smilie: Hopefully the teacher didn't get enough sleep last night and was just having a brain-dead moment (I have plenty of those daily! ;) )
