Tranquility7
How important is the TM? It is SO expensive :tongue_smilie: Can I get by without it, or do I really need it? I don't have any Latin experience (although I do have a few Latin currics on my shelf... I'm a curric collector, of sorts, LOL). We are currently doing GSWL and that is going well. I'm planning to introduce Minimus when we get it and see if DS likes it. He LOVES GSWL (funny to me, since there is nothing "fun" about it!) and enjoys the translation, so I think he will get a kick out of Minimus. I'm just trying to figure out if I have to fork over the $$ for the TM.
trafal
I think the teacher book is integral to the program. Sorry! It is very expensive. I have both volumesof Minimus and don't feel you could effectively use the program without the teacher book. It has directions, background notes, and games to reenforece the vocabulary. Suzanne115
When I used Minimus, I bought the Teacher's Edition. We used it and enjoyed it. Then, I sold all of it. Minimus sells very well here. Suzanne
Lisa in the UP of MI
If you just want to read the stories, it might be okay to skip the teacher's manual, but if you want to *do* the program you'll want the teacher's manual. We use it and are very happy. I'll be buying the teacher's manual again next year for Minimus Secundus.
Momling
I bought and sold the teacher's manual for the same price... it was pretty useful.
Zoo Keeper
Yeah, you do kind of need the TM. It tells you what that little mouse is actually saying. You think, "How hard is this? It's a CHILDREN'S Latin course! I should be able to figure out what that cartoon says!" But, alas, I needed the TM. Sometimes, it just wasn't that obvious. :) The TM also tells you what the point of each lesson is, such as subject/verb agreement, or adjectives, or whatever. And all the worksheets to copy off are nice. Is the TM terribly overpriced? YES! Do you need it (especially if you are not a Latin guru)? I say yes. Hope you can find a second (or third) hand copy for cheap. :) ETA: I think the CD is well worth it; hearing it spoken helps cement it all in even more... My boys still listen and look at their Minimus book for fun. Edited February 8, 2012 by Zoo Keeper
Tranquility7
Ok, thanks for all the info. It makes it more worth the price to know that it really contributes something worthwhile to the program!
