********* 914
When I'm really upset about something, I clean. It's how I get my frustration out. I like to try to channel that 'energy' to something productive. Especially if the thing I'm upset/annoyed/irritated about I have ZERO control over or influence on. I scrub, and wipe, clean floors, pick up and put away, etc. I have a sparkling clean broiler pan right now (seriously, the thing looks almost like brand new) 'cause I was annoyed over something this morning. :tongue_smilie: . It really is nothing big or important. And everything's totally fine, and I'm over it now. But this morning, I was annoyed, and knew I should just let it go, but I couldn't. When I get like that, I clean until I'm a bit calmer, then I clean AND pray. Sometimes I just scrub a broiler pan; sometimes my whole house is spotless before I feel better. I really try not to yell, or say things I'll regret later, so this gives me something to *do* while I calm down. Maybe it gives me a sense of control at a time I'm feeling upset over something I have no way of changing? I don't know. But it helps. Dh has made a joke or two in the past that, if he ever thought the house was messy and wanted it picked up, he could just pick a fight with me. :glare: :D He's probably right. Anyone else a cleaning freak when they're upset? Or maybe you have something else unusual you do that you'd like to share with the group... :D Edited February 3, 2012 by bethanyniez
Lang Syne Boardie 36,657
Yes! I take a walk and then I come home and scrub the house.
Nakia 199
Sometimes. But mostly I eat. Ugh. :glare:
********* 914
Sometimes. But mostly I eat. Ugh. :glare: Yeah, I do that when I'm sad. Which sometimes *follows* mad, depending on how things are resolved (or not resolved, as the case may be).
Ali in OR 16,318
I don't, but dh does. And I have to confess that I don't really try to talk him down if I know I'm going to get a clean house out of it!
Whereneverever 1,491
Yes. I've been known to clean other people's homes, even, if I'm annoyed enough. :tongue_smilie:
Momof3littles 1,377
I hate cleaning but am very effective when I'm angry. I also was very effective at cleaning whenever I had a big exam or final in college  Somehow that was always the best time to clean my closet and such.
Farrar 64,486
Only when I'm mad at dh. Dh cleans when he's anxious. When he's mad he throws things I need away.

That's... unfortunate. :D I'm assuming you mean on "accident"? Yes, let's go with that, shall we? ;)
Senorita Tuna Fish 10
If I did maybe my house wouldn't be so dang messy! Maybe some of you mad cleaners can come to my house when your mad! Fell free to PM me and I'll give you my address!! As of child birth I have been eating my feeling away! Before child birth I would walk, or run, or dance or make something....there's nothing like the sound of ripping fabric.:001_smile:
Baseball mom 1,783
Sadly no :(
BakersDozen 1,872
I have a "mad scale": Somewhat upset = sudden burst of picking up and putting away/reorganizing drawers and such Very upset = running load after load of laundry to the point of looking for anything that can be washed (one time every single blanket in the house got washed...that's a lot of blankets) Rip roaring get-out-of-my-way mad: I CLEAN like crazy! The dirtier and harder to clean something the better (broiler pans come in quite handy, I must say). I can definitely empthasize with the OP. :D For me it is most definitely because of my feeling out of control hence I find things to do that I can control. I'm an emotional cleaner. extendedforecast 1,285
Yes, I clean when I'm angry or worried. I need something to get ticked about, because my bedroom could use a good cleaning (I guess it's been a week since I cleaned it, which means the week is almost over-time flies!). I also clean when I'm on the phone, but I don't have anyone to talk to :tongue_smilie: All my contacts only communicate via Facebook or texting. One friend calls me when she is waiting in line to pick up her DC from school, but I am usually too busy doing school with the kids.
Forget-Me-Not 4,001
Yes, sometimes. Especially if the reason I'm mad is because the house is a wreck. But then sometimes cleaning puts me in a bad mood too. I'd rather do almost anything than mop my floors. (Which is why I pay someone to do it:leaving:)

Alte Veste Academy 11,220
Yes. I once spent two whole days furiously scrubbing the grout of my kitchen and dining room tile floor with a toothbrush. Unfortunately, I don't get mad very often. It's too bad because my house would be immaculate.
mom2abcd 38
I wish. I never like to clean.

Night Elf 9,899
When I'm really angry, I like to get in my car and drive on the highway with my music turned up really loudly. I drive fast and sing loud. Wow, saying it out loud makes it sound stupid. But in the moment, it's really cool! :tongue_smilie:
Plum 15,459
Yep. I've been noticing that more and more. I agree it's when I'm worried or I have no control over something. It's becoming a signal to dh to stay away.
KidsHappen 1,368
Oh yeah and the more cleaning I do the madder I was. My family knows. They say you know you don't want to be messing with mom right now she's clean like she on crack.

MariannNOVA 172
Anyone else a cleaning freak when they're upset? Or maybe you have something else unusual you do that you'd like to share with the group... :D Yes, I clean and I get the laundry TOTALLY done - washed, dried, folded, put away. It's somewhat of a 'problem' right now b/c with the house on the market, it is ALWAYS clean and the laundry is ALWAYS done. :glare: But, cleaning is cathartic for me. My mom is the same way.:glare: It clearly does not skip a generation.:001_huh:
RoughCollie 2,476
Yes. That's how I can tell I am Really Angry. :) I can get three times the work done in half the time. Unfortunately, it doesn't happen often.
Parrothead 6,958
Very upset = running load after load of laundry to the point of looking for anything that can be washed (one time every single blanket in the house got washed...that's a lot of blankets) Wow! I wish I could hold on to a mad that long. :glare::D Yes, I clean when I'm angry. I also clean when I have cabin fever.
Mommyfaithe 1,788
Yes, when I am angry, stressed or depressed, I clean.:D. I think the hard physical labor burns off steam in a productive way. I think sometimes my dh riles me up on purpose, just to get a clean living room:D Faithe
Greenmama2 166
I don't, but dh does. And I have to confess that I don't really try to talk him down if I know I'm going to get a clean house out of it! Ditto ;)
