Teachin'Mine
Does he have a goal? It might make such a difference if he knew what he wanted to do or a college that he wanted to go to ... or something that he needed to work towards. He's obviously very bright - just a typical teen in lack of effort. In another year or two, he may become very motivated because of the difference in being a year or two older, but you can also facilitate that if you can help him to find his motivation. He's doing well at the cc - maybe more involvement there might help. FWIW, I think he's doing awesome for a 9th grader!!! :)
Ester Maria
Reasonable and normal grades. In fact, better than my daughter's grades in my book (although her official, outside evaluated - "adjusted for inflation", as I call it - grades are impeccable).
