We found the perfect house/property

Recommended Posts

23 acres, 1/3 wooded, well, spring running through property, fruit trees, blackberry bushes galore, grapes, chicken coop with chickens, two other buildings for tools/large equipment, completely fenced and ready for livestock, landscaped with huge azaleas and dogwoods.

House is 2300 sq. feet, 3 bed/ 2 1/2 bath, fireplace, garage, sunroom, everything is new or in great condition.

On a quiet road, surrounded by woods and pasture. It's beautiful. I can't think of a more perfect place. We're making an offer first thing in the morning! :D

We currently live in military housing :glare:. They have really strict rules (which are good, I suppose) that require that I be with my young children while they are outside (which is near impossible sometimes). My psycho boy, who is two, ran outside while I was pre-occupied talking to my neighbor in the house. As my neighbor was leaving she said, "oh, a police man has your son!" I go outside and find my boy riding his tricycle in the road, going in circles around the cop car :tongue_smilie:

We have some friends whose 2 year old kept escaping and running to the end of their street on post, and their kids were eventually taken from them for two weeks as a result.

Anyway, that really shook us up. We are going to be here for a while and that incident is sure to happen again. That was the last straw for us. We can't stand living on post anyway. My kids need land to explore that doesn't require my constant supervision. We need room to breathe and run and live.

I immediately jumped on the computer ready to find ANYTHING to get us out of this place. We've looked before and have never found anything remotely close to what we would like.

And then we found this property.

We wrote down the address, packed the kids in the car, and drove by the house to look at it. We couldn't see much from the road, so we decided to go visit some friends that lived nearby. Turns out the friends know the sellers, called them up to see if we could come by immediately, they said yes. Looked at it, loved it, and we're buying it. It's only been on the market for a few weeks.

It's crazy how fast things change.

Somebody else is putting an offer in today as well:willy_nilly::svengo:

We have to get it.

We have to.

:svengo:

If it is meant to be it will work out. That said living in a military community I hope you aren't getting in over your head. What happens when DH transfers and the house doesn't sell? Unfortunately I see the end results too often around here. It does sound quite lovely though and I pray it works out if it is best for your family.

That sounds heavenly! We would so love to have that kind of land for our boys to run on.....

I hope the other offer is very, very low and that the people have terrible credit and that they demand a contingency that says they get to sell their own house before they buy this one.

I really hope your offer is accepted!

Me Too!!!!!

This place not sell? Not a chance. Dh transfers? There's always Skype.

I know what you mean though. We see it all the time too.

Nice! Now that it's yours, you must post pictures. Where are you? I am going to live a bit vicariously through you at the moment, because we are military, two years away from 20, and I absolutely cannot wait to get to our permanent destination and buy our dream home. We've owned houses, rented houses, once lived on base -- I'm ready to be done with it all. I want something permanent.

Your new home sounds like a little slice of heaven.

That property sounds dreamy. Congratulations!

I admit to being perplexed at the notion of a two year old "escaping" the house. I have five children with the youngest just turning two and we have had our doors leading to the outside child proofed for years. No toddler or preschooler goes out without help or at least me or someone knowing about it. It is incredibly dangerous and I am sad that the military has to have a policy in place for escaped children. It seems common sense to me that a two year old needs to be attended by an adult while playing outside.

Your new property has a "spring" running through it. That sounds lovely, but is also a drowning danger for an escaped child.

Congratulations! I can't imagine having that much land! We are currently sitting on right at 3 acres - and dh is always talking about how he would love to have more. It sounds like a perfect place for children to explore, with the woods and the stream! I know my kiddos would LOVE it! So excited for your good news - please make sure to share some pics!

I don't put covers on my outlets either.

He ran out of the door while my neighbor was coming in. I saw him go, but it didn't register because my neighbor was talking to me, asking to use my wheat grinder. Then I forgot and went into the house where my dh was unpacking from a scout campout and needing my assistance. Just a lot going on and I'm easily distracted. There's really no cure for that.

Additionally, I'm not used to having a post-stamp yard where the road is right there. We've always had big yards, so if the kids run outside, they don't go straight for the road. There are other things to do in a big yard. Here, not so much.

I don't let my ds2 outside without me on purpose here, is what I'm trying to say. I don't like how dangerous it is here. It is not a good fit for our family.

The house and property look gorgeous! Congratulations!!!

Personally' date=' I would fence a play area in the backyard so the kids could come and go freely out the back door without the danger of the little ones wandering too far.[/quote']

:iagree:

We have a fenced area for when the kids are little. It gives them a safe place to ride their car, blow bubbles, sidewalk chalk and I can see it all at a glance. I can even enjoy my porch swing while they play. When they are big enough I can trust them to explore or I have a big kid watching they get more roaming rights.

I am really excited for you guys! I know what it is like to try and keep escape artists under lockdown. You either do not succeed and beat yourself up, or you do succeed and live with a level of stress and anxiety that is very draining.

There are some priceless things I would not change about living out in the country. Watching my dd play her clarinet on top of the round bale while her horses eat...priceless. Sending my boys to pick sour dock and juniper berries on their dirt bikes...priceless. Being able to breathe, and not worry about what my neighbor is going to come over and tell me my kids cannot do in our own backyard. Aaaaahhhh!:D
