mamawaabangi
Hi there. I had been looking at this US History curr. a year ago... and for the life of me, can't remember the name of the site for it. I thought it was something like "bare foot" books or something like that. Does that ring a bell with any one? Thanks!
mamawaabangi
Ah! Just remembered! Beautiful feet book! Thanks!:D Now any thoughts on them? I'd have a 2nd grader and 2 kindies on it???
mamawaabangi
My question is... we've been doing Sonlight Core A... all of us, a 1st gder, and 2 pre-kers... we love it. But SL doesn't do US history for some time, and I don't love that. We could switch over, do 1 year US History and then switch back to do Core B for our dd's 3rd and our boys 1st grade... does that sound ok? would there be an advantage to doing the reverse? Thanks! 3peasinapod
I think Beautiful Feet books would be great for the scenario you described, a nice 1-year study. It has the D'Aulaire books, which are fantastic. The pictures are awesome and the text is wonderful for early to mid elementary. I have not used Beautiful Feet books, but the guide is fairly simplistic, but pulls out some notebooking and comprehension questions. Have you looked at the samples yet? I really like their book selections, and I am working on collecting most of them. Some of them are in SL cores too. I am bumping in the hopes that someone who has used it will respond. :001_smile:
PentecostalMom
We used Beautiful Feet in 3rd grade with our son. It only took about five months, and that was going slowly. Keep in mind I only had one child at the time and we did LOTS of school, because it was fun. Dh is very history oriented, so he did some of it with him as well, which probably made the program go more quickly for us. BF has some great lit based packages. I love them 2nd only to SL. hmschooling
I really like their literature choices for most all of the guides but didn't end up using them. I did have issue with the guide being that it's very much just questions and a bit heavy for the younger end and from the samples, I didn't see much fun in there. I felt it was better for olders, but the books were great for youngers too. We landed with Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory at that age for American History when I was contemplating using BF's Amer History for K-3. I was very pleased with it all around! Your kids could hang with BF though, I'm sure. I just found the other to be more suited overall for the age range you have. And you could do it just 4 days a week if you wanted to even let your kindies mature more into it if you decided you'd like to move on to the next level after that.
