lorrainejmc
At what point in OPGTR would I be able to start ds on the likes of Little Bear (I Can Read level 1)? He is at 2 consonant blends and is staring to become quite fluent with the cvc words. Reading is really starting to click so I want to be prepared. He is starting to sound out many unfamiliar words. I'm also thinking it's time I ordered AAS level 1. I want the readers for that too, I think he could read them now but I have another ds who will use them. mom2denj
Hi there! I am wondering what lesson your ds is on in OPGTR? We are using both OPGTR and AAS 1 together and I am asking because it sounds like he may be ready for AAS level 2. We are on lesson 81 and I feel like the lessons in AAS have followed along and have been a great review of what we have done so far in OPGTR. I am not sure if AAS has placement tests but you may want to check it out. HTH =)
mom2denj
I just reread your post. If he is at two consonant blends, I think it would be a good time to order AAS. He will probably breeze through the first couple of lessons, but then I think the two curriculums will work together nicely. Sorry I didn't read your post correctly the first time. StartingOver
We use OPG and AAS, I start AAS when they start blends, as AAS starts with CVC words after a bit of alphabetizing ( which I don't insist they master if they can sing the alphabet song but do continue to work with. ). They work very well together, AAS moves much slower than OPG though so that makes it perfect for reinforcement as well as spelling !
lorrainejmc
Thanks. Looks like I need to do some curriculum shopping then.:D
MerryAtHope
I am not sure if AAS has placement tests but you may want to check it out. HTH =) Most kids start in 1, but in the FAQ file there's an article on whether to start in 1 or 2.
