HappyGrace
I'm going to sub honey for the sugar in the filling, but can't figure out how to make the dumpling type cobbler part on top. I used to use the Betty Crocker recipe-basically flour, butter, salt, sugar, milk-mix and put in dollops on top of the apple filling and bake. Maybe I can just do the topping w/out the sugar? I do eat maple syrup, honey, etc, but those would be too liquidy in the top cobbler part, wouldn't they?
Denisemomof4
Do you have any stevia?
PIE!
I often just use biscuit dough (which is what you already typed minus the sugar). It's not as sweet, but I like it anyway.
HappyGrace
ah, good idea, maybe i'll try stevia, thanks
Catwoman
How about using Splenda? I don't eat it, but my dh has told me that when I bake things for him with Splenda, it tastes more like sugar, but the Stevia stuff has a bitter aftertaste. KungFuPanda
I do a biscuit crust, but add a little more fat than in my regular biscuit recipe. I'd experiment with honey or applesauce for sweetener.
HappyGrace
I went with the recipe as written in Betty Crocker, but subbed honey for sugar (and not as much) in apple part-plus added a bit of cornstarch to thicken. Then I did the biscuit topper the same too but used a couple T of honey instead of sugar. It came out great! It was actually too sweet, but that's prbly because I haven't had much sweet for a month since I cut out sugar (today is PMS :)). I also used whole wheat flour (white whole wheat). Thanks!!
