Heathermomster Posted January 25, 2012 Share Posted January 25, 2012 of writing to a 7th grader and would prefer the curriculum meet the following criteria: Quote: Strategies that provide a common language across grade levels and content areas *Interpreting textbooks *Varieties of writing for different purposes *Note taking and study skills *Listening and speaking skills Stategies that increase critical thinking skills *Analyzing text *Producing organized, clear communications *Synthesizing information into knowledge Strategies that teach the writing process *Narrative, personal narrative, and expository writing *Sentence, paragraph and multiparagraph writing Stategies that improve reading Comprehension *Response to literature *Vocabulary *Summarizing DS will be coming home in the Fall and he's dyslexic. I've been looking at WWE4/WWS but am now wondering if I should supplement WWS with something that teaches more structure of sentences, paragraphs, and explores writing styles. perky Posted January 26, 2012 Share Posted January 26, 2012 You might look at BJU Press literature and english. It would fit the criteria. I'm not sure how it would work with a dyslexic child, though. Maybe you could work on it together, or at a lower grade level? I really love BJU reading/literature. I pick and choose which topics we cover, and use lots of visuals (charts and bulletin board sets from the teacher store). The english does cover a lot of the stuff you mentioned, but I don't care for it myself. You might also check into Winning with Writing.
