funnygirl
What are the books on your shelf that you find indispensible in dealing with your SN child? My most referred to is: The Explosive Child - http://www.amazon.com/Explosive-Child-Understanding-Frustrated-Chronically/dp/0061906190/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1327429100&sr=8-1 Looking forward to adding some new books to my shelf!! Crimson Wife
I really like the Gordon Neufeld and Roger Schank books mentioned but they aren't about SN per se. I've read a bunch of books about autism in recent months and my favorites are: Children with High-Functioning Autism by Claire Hughes-Lynch. Special Needs Kids Eat Right by Judy Converse Healing Our Autistic Children: A Medical Plan for Restoring Your Child's Health by Dr. Julie Buckley. This is the most easy-to-understand book I've read on the biomedical approach. The Kenneth Bock and Jacquelyn McCandless books are good too but harder to wade through IMHO. Making Sense of Autism Spectrum Disorders by Dr. James Coplan. While this book does an excellent job discussing the various standard therapies (ABA, Floortime, TEACCH, etc.) the reader should be aware that the author considers the biomedical approach to be "quackery". I personally found the book to be worthwhile despite his arrogant dismissal of the biomedical approach, but others may want to pass on it. Not autism-specific but very useful for families who decide to use the PS for assessment and/or services: Nolo's IEP Guide: Learning Disabilities by Lawrence Siegel
