mom31257
When you pinch your nose can you still taste what's in your mouth? I do not taste, but my children do.
bookfiend
I don't know, but I'm going to go try it out right now with a piece of chocolate. :D
natalie
Other. I don't taste it while my nose is pinched. However, after unpinching my nose there may be a remaining aftertaste if the flavor was strong.

Hannah C.
My parents told me to use this trick when I was younger. I could still taste the food! I don't think it makes a difference for me.
JFSinIL
Well, since I have anosmia it really doesn't matter.
bbkaren
I can still taste whether it's sweet/salty/sour, etc, but can't taste the actual...fragrance of the food, if that makes sense. I could say it's sour, but not identify it as lemon, for instance.
LuvingLife
No it stops me from breathing!:lol: Never do that while eating!:D
Paige
I can still taste it but it tastes differently. It's not just a slight taste as much as a slightly different taste. It could help to make something offensive easier to accept but it is only a matter of degree. I'd never do it in public but I have done it with liquid medicines as an adult. Happy Scientist
Hold Your Nose is a fun way to test this.
Blueridge
When I feel a cold coming on, I take a tablespoon of the most HORRID tasting herbal mixture in a bit of water. I hold my nose, gulp bravely, and keep holding my nose closed until I can drink some plain water and eat a cracker. The taste sensation will return immediately after I let go of my nose. It really helps...and so does the herbal mix! (Anti-Plague)
Farrar
It dampens the flavor for me, but only very slightly. Mostly I still taste it and it makes it hard to chew, which every time I've ever tried it has really interfered with my senses in general. SweetMissMagnolia
they always told us kids that when we had to take cough medicine-not sure if it REALLY works or not.....
BikeBookBread
I voted pinch and still taste. I think it is more of a diversion tactic :D
Kathleen in LV
I have a relative who, due to an injury, lost her sense of smell. She now can only taste certain foods she eats - those with stronger flavors. Your sense of smell certainly affects your ability to "taste" things, but maybe to different degrees in different people.
