First day of class question

I would bring the books on the first day of class.

You can ask the professor if the books will be needed in every class; some classes do need the book every period (my DD's French class, for example, uses the textbook and workbooks daily), others (mine) don't. But on the first day, I would be sure to bring mine.

ETA: If you really think this is too heavy, you need to email your instructor and ask.

When I was in college it was a wash...some teachers didn't even ever USE the textbooks that they "required" therefore didn't need to bring them. Others wanted to see them every day because problems and such are in there. I would email and ask. For classes like Bio and general freshman classes the classes were so big that they just lectured and you rarely needed the books.

I would bring it and ask about whether it's needed for future classes. I would also suggest looking for a rolling backpack to make hauling the texts around easier. You may find some really good sales right now.

Did some googling and found this one: http://www.amazon.com/Bleacher-Rolling-Backpack-in-Purple/dp/B003XVJ9PK/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1327336364&sr=8-13

Not a bad price considering free shipping. You may find them on sale in local stores, but I know that after paying for textbooks and all, spending more on a backpack may not be a great idea.

The first day of class usually consists of the teachers going over syllabi. Sometimes you are even told that the book is optional. Depending on what kind of courses you are taking, you may need to bring some books to class on a regular basis but, in my experience, professors will let you know when and if you even need them. Don't put the strain on your back if you don't need to.

How did it go?

It went well. I like all my classes so far, and all my professors seem great, too. It is an inner city community college, so I was expecting a lot of the students to act like it was still high school and disrupt classes, etc. but so far it hasn't been too much of a problem. I seem to have gotten lucky with the other students in my classes.

Thanks for asking :001_smile:
