Wendi
My mom got me a Kindle Touch for Christmas, and I am loving it! My dh has been eyeing it. I would like to get him a Kindle for his birthday in March, but I don't know if I can afford the Kindle Touch. Besides using buttons instead of a touch screen, are there any important differences? Probably no games, right? But who cares about that. Wendi
frugalmama
I have a Kindle Keyboard 3g - I think it's pretty much the same except for the buttons really.

(2) the Kindle has half the battery capacity of the Kindle Touch, so you need to recharge it twice as often. (3) although neither has a physical keyboard, the virtual keyboard of the Touch is a lot more usable (because you can just touch letters) than the one on the Kindle (because you have to use the arrow keys to move around the keyboard). That means the Kindle really, really sucks for playing games or taking notes. The good news is that the least expensive Kindle is, in my opinion and that of many others, the best of the Kindles for pure reading of text-based material. It's just just enough smaller and lighter than the Kindle Touch that almost anyone can use it one-handed without worrying about dropping it. The Kindle Keyboard has a speaker, and a physical keyboard fwiw. We use the text-to-speech function daily for reading classics - it saves my voice. Mergath
I ended up going with the Touch, just for the ease of navigation. With the number of books I already have on it, the touch screen makes things much easier. If I had to use the dpad to scroll through one by one, it would take me forever. I also like being able to listen to music while I read. I have a bunch of classical music loaded onto it, and the sound quality isn't bad, given the miniscule speakers. And, the games are fun. :D
