ravinlunachick
what are its dimensions? I am dreaming of converting our two-car garage into living space, and although we long thought we'd use that space as a family room, now that we're homeschooling, I find myself thinking about having at least part of it as a school room. I'm not sure we can do that without taking the entire space. I'm only schooling oldest dd and my 3yo tagalong. We're not certain this will be a long term thing (hsing), so ideally, any rooms should still be usable if we enroll the kids in ps. Currently, our garage is roughly 19x20 feet. It faces a southeasterly direction and gets *wonderful* sunlight. The girls' bedroom is directly above it, and they don't even really need an overhead light until late fall. It's already got drywall and outlets, but no heat. Our water heater and deep freezer are out there and would have to stay. If you've converted your own garage, I'd love to see photos (particularly before and after).
elegantlion
Well our classroom is about 12 x 10. We live in a bungalow and it's the 2nd bedroom. (Ds took the dormer as his bedroom) It's crowded because we have 3 desks in there, along with several bookcases. But we love it. I also use it as my office area, so it's my favorite room in the house.
ravinlunachick
That's about the size of our small dining area where we do most of our schoolwork, elegantlion. I found a video on YouTube where a lady converted her entire garage into a preschool room. She just put up a big ol' curtain rod (chain link fence rod) over the garage door and left it as is, per HOA requirements. I don't think I'd want to do that, but it would make it a cheaper project, no doubt.
LucyStoner
Tiny. It is the third "bedroom" in our townhouse. about 8 x 9? It is also a room with a door or window in each wall. :glare: We have a small desk, a small whiteboard, some milk crates for storing materials by subject and a small chair and 1/2 type loveseat. The bookcase is just outside the room in the hallway. We love it, as it opens to the yard and there is a spot for me to read while he works or we can go into the yard for work too. houseofkids&pets
We converted one bedroom into a school room, like some of the previous posters. Although our boys now have to share a bedroom, I really like having one dedicated spot for all things school related. I also like that it is upstairs, so all of the educational posters, whiteboards, etc. are up there, not in our daily living space (last year, we were in the kitchen). We still venture out into other rooms, depending on what we are doing, but I try to make sure all of the books and materials go back into the school room. I would love a bigger space, but we are making due with what we have.
AmyontheFarm
Our water heater and deep freezer are out there and would have to stay. I use my deep freezer as a prep area. I love that it's high enough to keep little hands away from things while I'm prepping. Also, the metal side of the freezer and water heater are great for displaying artwork on.
