Lady Florida.
It's so sad. I've always wanted to go see The Senator, but never got around to it. Now it's too late. This tree was growing when Babylon was sacked. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/seminole/os-senator-cypress-tree-fire-20120116,0,6171920.story http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senator_%28tree%29 At first they thought it as arson, but it's now believed to have been a natural fire. AuntieM
I grew up in reclaimed marshland. Fires started underground all the time; firefighters spent days and weeks trying to find sources and get all the underground smoldering extinguished. It is sad to lose such a landmark. End of an era, for sure.
