# Precalculus course or supplement help??

## Recommended Posts

My daughter is needing some help with precalculus. I can not afford anything expensive and hope that you all can give me alternatives that I can afford.

Thank you

Anita, what are you using now, and what did you use for algebra?

Scroll down the main page to "Pre-Calculus" and you will see non-Trig tutorials.

Anita' date=' what are you using now, and what did you use for algebra?[/quote']

She has been using Larson's text books for all her math. She was doing just fine up until the last month.

She thought she understood the concepts but when she did the cumulative test, she got nearly all wrong answers (first time this has happened to her and she is frustrated and very upset).

For some reason I can't explain it to her so she understands. And when she looks back on the lessons and does a few practice problems, she thinks she understands. But then when I give her the test, she again got the wrong answers.

She is saying it is harder for her this year to teach herself the math, and I just can't seem to explain things well. I can do the math... but just not explain it.

So I need a different precalc curriculum for her. But I can't afford any of the \$300+ courses that I wish I could sign her up to take.

Here's a Dana Mosely DVD set that goes with the Larson text my son uses. These DVDs are identical to the Chalkdust series.*

You can find other sets on Amazon if you have a different edition or title of a Larson precalc text.

PM me if your daughter needs help on specific sections and hopefully we can help her out.

I'm a big fan of www.aleks.com and you can work at your own pace, so even though it is \$20 a month, she could really focus on it and not have to pay for it forever. I piloted it the public schools and got it started there because I was so impressed with it- we used it both for students who needed remedial help to get them caught up and for students who needed the extra challenge so they could "skip" a face-to-face class. In fact, I did the trial (48 hours I think) just so I could review some pre-calc and calculus and it was super helpful.

Dana Mosley has an online website with all of the same videos as the Chalkdust ones.

You can pay for a section/chapter/book at a time. Whatever you need.
