Hewitt's high school Conceptual Physics was a simpler than Suchocki's Conceptual Chemistry (which was written as a gentle college level chemistry for non-majors). Neither requires math above Algebra 1. Neither refers to the other nor "builds up" to the other -- they really are different and stand-alone, so you could do them in either order. Many people do the Physics first, in 8th or 9th grade, allowing them the ability to do an Advanced Physics later in high school once the student has completed the higher math.
