eternalknot
I don't have a pastor (or a church, for that matter). My kids do, though. They attend a church of roughly 3000. The priest knows them well, and has already written recommendations for both. My eldest has a weekly appointment with the priest for confession and a chat (my son has a ton of spiritual questions that I'm ill-equipped to answer). My daughter is always tagging along, so the priest is very aquainted with her as well. Soon she'll be of age for weekly confession, too. Each kid serves in a ministry with an adult family friend, as well. He knows me, and isn't very fond of me, because I fought him on a schooling issue. He's not respectful of my (lack of) faith, but respects me to the extent that I'm raising my kids in his. He's taken them under his wing. Homeschooling has made this access easier.
