TheApprentice
Does anyone have experience with his new lit. program? Are the teacher manuals necessary? It also looks like if I bought the teacher manual, I may not need his guides for the books. I was looking at his first trilogy. I don't understand what is necessary.

You really need the guide. The novels have some extra word definitions and grammar analyses.
Dolphin
I would get the guide. I have found it helpful. We are using the first group and have done one book. Something someone here told me, and we did. Get a regular (unabridged) copy from the library. Have your child read that. You read the one that MCT sends you. After they have read their chapters, without interruption. You can go through the MCT version together. Just a word of warning. This is a parent intensive course. You really need to read the books with your kids and go over it together.
ReneTL
Can you compare these lit guides to the Memoria Press guides? We're currently doing Lassie Come Home (9 yo) and Anne of Green Gables (11yo). I find the guides helpful for the discussion for me, but I'm not crazy about the "workbook" style. Both kids have told me they just want to read the book and skip the workbooks. (I do think they are killing some of the joy of reading for them, but my fear won't let me just let it go.) Any thoughts? Thanks, Rene
TheApprentice
Thanks for your replies. I think I'll purchase the TG first, and if needed, get the books.
missmoe
So, the books come annotated? Is this to prepare students to annotate their own books in later levels?
Jen500
So, the books come annotated? Is this to prepare students to annotate their own books in later levels? Oh, now that I've been paging through The Time Machine I see that it has a lot more annotation than just some definitions and 4-level analysis. And it ties in nicely with the poetry books. Not too much to be distracting though.
Lisa in the UP of MI
MCT lit is nothing like that. And the cool thing is I can imagine using the ideas (with a bit of an imagination on your part) in the TG with other books you read, not just the ones in his set. I would certainly think this was MCT's intent.

I have the first lit level planned for next school year.
