Alte Veste Academy
I wanted more of Matthew looking longingly at Mary. :glare: But otherwise, I was happy with it. :D

GWOB
Matthew-heavy sigh. He has the best eyes. I loved it. I love every character. I love the costumes. I love everything about it. I especially love Matthew's eyes. Really. How can eyes be that blue?
Murphy101
I wanted more of Matthew looking longingly at Mary. :glare: But otherwise, I was happy with it. :D I wish some one, ANYONE, would smack Mary and Edith into sense. Add Thomas to that. One of my boys actually exclaimed out loud, "Oh come on! Are you kidding me?!" when Thomas did his oh woe is me bc I'm so ill used by the world blarney speech. He is the most manipulative jerk. And poor Bates! And Daisy?! Really? If the girl wasn't interested in him, she needs to cut him loose. The poor guy. We were so shocked. We thought she was done being insipid. Lots of discussion about war realities and what defines a man are going on here. (This has become my and my three teen boys bonding show. :) )

(and ultimately have no choice) Matthew-heavy sigh. He has the best eyes. I loved it. I love every character. I love the costumes. I love everything about it. I especially love Matthew's eyes. And disappointed because she should be interested. What a nice young man! I totally want Edith to be a farmer's wife. It suited her. Poor Bates is right. And Anna. I think Anna is actually my favorite character. The cowardice issue hit me hard. What a hard thing to know about someone you love and have lost. It's best if the mom never knows. :( Off to bed... Murphy101
Yes. The cowardice. The suicide. The do anything just to get home again, even risking getting hand shot off on purpose. The chicken feathers. Ouch.

AuntieM
Can you imagine being a man and being handed a white feather by someone who probably knows very little or nothing about your circumstances? What were those women thinking? Had they lost beloved in the war? Is there a historical precedent/inspiration for this? And what's up with Daisy? When did she decide to NOT be William's sweetheart? Like there's someone else???? What???? As for Matthew, I can't get all swooney because he looks JUST LIKE MY DAD's side of the family. I have cousins who look like him. It kind of freaks me out. But *Mary* should LOOOOOVE him!!!!!! Edited January 9, 2012 by AuntieM
Murphy101
What were those women thinking? Had they lost beloved in the war? Is there a historical precedent/inspiration for this? They were thinking "My husband, brother, father, son is dead or might be dying right now and this able bodied schmuck is sitting here enjoying a freaking party." Plenty of historical precedent for it. Not saying I agreed with those women. I don't. But yeah. Plenty of historical precedent.

But do you ever remember reading/hearing, in any historical accounts, of a man being handed a white chicken feather? This was new to me and rather... I dunno, shocking? I can only imagine what a recipient would have felt (depending on whether he had a bona fide excuse or was a dodger, kwim?).

Rebecca VA
There's a mention of that in Rilla of Ingleside (the last of the Anne of Green Gables books). Walter was given a white weather because he didn't enlist right away.
